I don't think they ran the serial numers straight through, I think they stopped for awhile and then started again when they did the cleanup and just slipped in the serial numbers inline...

2004 though they have made some special runs of the original frame versions since. The orginal Vaqueos simply said "Vaquero" on the side, all of the new versions actually say "New Vaquero" on the side so telling them apart is quite easy.
