question about "new" old model blackhawk

I'm laughing at myself now. Once again, I bought something without doing adequate research. I probably should have gotten one of the new model Flat Top ones. Were the old model .41 magnums also built on the mid-size frame, or were they larger? -Mark

question about "new" old model blackhawk

Thanks, Hondo. I've got it now, so might as well shoot it. There's definitely nothing wrong with it that couldn't be addressed if needed. It's funny that just a few weeks ago, I decided to limit myself to new(ish) handguns since I'm much more interested in shooting than collecting. I just think...

question about "new" old model blackhawk

Thanks for the advice about not lowering the hammer from half-cock. I've only lowered it after bringing it to full-cock, but I hadn't thought about it. I worried that someone might have played quick-draw, but the opening for the cylinder latch is not peened, so I don't think it's been slammed...

question about "new" old model blackhawk

Following a spur-of-the-moment bid, I now have an old model .357 blackhawk with 6 1/2" barrel. This is my first centerfire single-action revolver, although I did have a German-made rimfire single action for a short while, over 40 years ago. The revolver does not show signs of having been shot a...

Security Six Parts? Replacement spring problems.

I used Wolff springs in a Security Six for a good while. The trigger return spring eventually failed, and I got a replacement set of springs from Ruger.

.44 Remington Magnum (T/C) in New Model Super Blackhawk

Pardon my confusion. I had just looked in the Lyman manual, not the Hornady. _________________ Val No worry. Your point about reading the "fine print" in the loading manuals is a good one. I think that gets overlooked a lot. -Mark

.44 Remington Magnum (T/C) in New Model Super Blackhawk

This is not the case in the Hornady manual in question; all of the cartridge overall lengths are the same in the revolver and T/C sections. (Sorry if my replies have gotten mixed up with other messages. I hit "quote" before properly submitting.)

.44 Remington Magnum (T/C) in New Model Super Blackhawk

My take on this is that the carbine and T/C sections present loads that are likely to work well in these platforms, along with the resulting velocities. Fewer different powders are presented in these than are included in the revolver section, but the maximum powder charges are about the same as...

.44 Remington Magnum (T/C) in New Model Super Blackhawk

Hornady's 9th edition has a section for .44 Remington Magnum (T/C). These are not "Ruger and Contender" loads. The maximum charges differ little from the "regular" .44 Magnum section. Some maximum charges are slightly higher in the T/C section (25.9gr versus 24.8gr of H110 for 240gr bullets) and...

what would you use a .44 fmjfp for ?

Magtech 240gr FMJFP gets a much better tone from the 100 yard metal gong than soft bullets do. :-) -Mark

ooops. Just noticed that this thread is a few months old. Were you able to resolve the problem? -Mark

    Sights on Security Six

This is not a trajectory issue. If I were having this problem, the first thing I'd try would be to shoot some standard ammunition. 1200fps wadcutter ammo seems a little odd, but if I were going to guess, I'd expect it to shoot lower than 158s, instead of higher. If more standard loads still...
