dude!.....a gunsmith?!?!....sounds like your new to firearms so its perfectly ok to be concerned about destroying your new pistol so don't fret i'm sure its an easy fix. The basic rule of thumb for breaking in a new pistol involves alot of cleaning,oiling,the occasional deburring of sharp edges...
