Most large gun companies don't make their own magazines. They are contracted to makers that specialize in their manufacture. Ruger probably got a bad batch from a contractor and their QC didn't catch it.

Thank you for the suggestions and education. The bullets I have used are from Meister and pretty hard. Perhaps I need to try a bullet of softer lead to see if that gives any different results. Gene Pool

I have a 1978 ventage M77 rifle. The 8 scope ring screws are the slotted type for a screwdriver. They are worn to the point I would like to replace them. Are replacement screws available from sources other than Ruger? Thank you.
