    SR1911 Front Sight Poll

hmm... I just measured my new style front sight and there is a bit of a taper, however negligible. front: .109" rear: .127" never thought to measure it before...

    SR1911 Front Sight Poll

DCRuger, just looked at the envelope and the exact date is 2014/02/19. the date of manufacture on the factory box is april 11 2014. I understand the new sight is machined steel (not MIM) and is sourced from a different supplier. good luck with yours.

    SR1911 Front Sight Poll

my particular SR has the new style front sight as described by 19ontheslide. the gun's serial # is 671-245xx and the fired casing is dated 2/14. I bought it in april of this year. also, there is a visible gap between the bottom of the sight and the slide. the pistol now has over 1800 rounds...

    Grease/Oil

I've had great luck with brian enos' slide glide (standard / red). matter of fact I broke my SR1911 in with it. after over 1500 trouble free rounds through it the internals still look brand new. I run it pretty wet and the parts that I do oil get hoppes elite. the old gunner's mate in me...

    Latest Offerings for SR1911 Ammo

for defensive ammo, Winchester PDX 230 gr. works well in mine and is among the top picks for factory ammo. if you're thinking about reloading, here's what works for me: 230 gr. fmj bullets - berry's or x-treme plated bullets. 5.8 gr. unique powder with CCI 300 primers. chronographs right at...

    muzzle crown question...

thanks for the replies. based on them I think i'll leave well enough alone. the closest gunsmith (las cruces, nm) quoted me a price of $35 to machine it. figure in gas for the drive and i'm looking at about $65. money better spent on reloading supplies.

    muzzle crown question...

does anyone else think that ruger could have done a better job in finishing the muzzle crown? mine has a slight bevel on the outside of the barrel but the crown looks like they could have taken more time to smooth out the land and groove facing. there's really no roughness in this area but it...

    SR1911 Bullet Setback Problem

jagdhund, just happened to have some once fired nickel cases I'm prepping so I thought I would mike them. Winchester, hornady and double tap all came out to .011" - .011.5". no discernible difference. I will put a taper crimp on the hornady's using a lee carbide factory crimp die and check...

    SR1911 Bullet Setback Problem

I noticed this bullet set back with the hornady's also. first round chambering from the magazine did indeed push the bullet past the cannelure. very surprising from an outfit like hornady. this did not happen with Winchester's PDX1 ammo, which does not have the crimp ring. my hand loads...

    SR1911 Front sight...Change??

from what I can gather we both have the new machined front sight. should mine ever break it will go straight to novak's for an upgrade. i'll be getting the same type of set up as is on there now, minus the three dot feature. as a matter of fact, I blacked out the dots on mine with a birchwood...

    SR1911 Front sight...Change??

chuck, your post made me take a closer look at my front sight on my 5" pistol. the post does not have any taper on the sides, it just goes straight down till it meets the base. also the sight blade does not touch the slide (only at the cut for the base), there is an equal length space between...

    600 rounds later...

and the SR1911 has proven itself. all types of ammo - pmc, magtech, all kinds of factory JHP's and my own handloads. all loaded into wilson combat 7 rnd. service mags and not one malfunction. as noted in a previous post I did install an arched mainspring housing for a better grip. since then I...

WTT: SR1911 mags for wilson combat mags

I have two new unused factory ruger 7 and 8 round magazines I would like to trade. they have never been inserted into the pistol and still have the orange stickers on them. i'll trade straight across for two NIW wilson combat stainless 7 rnd. service mags (wilson part #608). I don't plan on...
