I have a thing for Kildees. I've always liked their antic (broken wing, run and stop, etc...) This year we have four nests on the side of the driveway. Each nest ended up (as always) with four eggs. Something got the eggs from the last two nests. On Saturday, the first nest hatched out. The first one out made for a great video of it running around. Two were still in the nest in another pic, with one still-unhatched egg. By noon, all four were running around. The second nest is near hatching out.

Hmmm...same bird, here they are known as killdeer as far as I know (always heard that in this area). Fun to watch and try to figure out. Where we are, we had an area of grass, then cropland. Killdeer were common on the edges. Cool they are on your driveway.

We used to watch the nests at work all the time. They would nest in the gravel fire road or up on the roof where moss and other debris would accumulate. Takes a while to find there nest sometimes and I read they dispose of the shells after hatching to hid the nest in case it gets used the next year.

When I lived in NY I had 4 to 6 nests every year on th eedge of my driveway. Used to be fun walking to the mailbox and watching their antics. One of the few things I miss about NYS.
