Your first Handgun. Do you still have it ?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

The very first Handgun you got. Whether you inherited it or if you bought it, Do you still have it ? If you sold it or traded it away, Do you wish you had it back ??
That Ruger Security Six was stolen by burglars.
Insurance company paid me less that I bought it for.
Two years later the same insurance company recovered the gun and offered to let me buy it back for the price of a brand new Ruger.

Nope - didn't bite on the second set of thieves . . .

I Still have me first semi-auto pistol. My first semi-auto pistol was a Browning 1968 "T" Series 9mm High Power. I paid the princely sum of $104 out the door for it at the old Buckeye Sporting Goods Store in Canton, Ohio. My Dad thought I was nuts since he had sold his German FN High Power with original holster and 2 matching Mags for only $30. I had begged him not to sell it so a few years later when I was a working man I purchased this 1968 High Power.

Later in time about 1974 I think, I bought one of the last Browning Nomad .22 pistols for sale at a local gun store in Alliance, Ohio. I still have that gun as well. Its tongue and groove slide and frame and all steel construction make it the Cadillac of .22 semi-auto pistols with a superd trigger pull as well. It has no junk modern castings, no junk plasticky parts or no junk aluminum parts. Truly one of the last high quality classic semi-auto pistols before they all became extinct forever.

Ruger Mark 1 Target model. Still have it. Wish I had another magazine. Wish I had not cut the thumb rest off the grip. Did put some shims in it to tighten up the trigger movement. It does shoot good.

My mom bought me my first handgun for my 15th birthday. A Ruger Blackhawk 7 1/2" in 45 LC for $69.99 in 1970. I had to muck a lot of stalls to get that kind of money. Still have it and worth every bit of my sweat.

My first revolver was a S&W model 19-3, .357 Mag, 6"barrel, still mint in box with paperwork and tools. My first pistol was a Belgian Browning Hi-Power, 9 mm, mint in pouch, which (knock on wood) has never had a single malfunction. Both were purchased in 1973.

Same here and born 1955 both great years
I am a little bit older than you two, and gradauted from HS in 1964. I bought my Ruger Blackhack .357 Mag 6.5" Blued in 1965, and it looks almost new still! I use to quick draw with it. See attached.

1964 was a great year too. The last year that one silver coins were still silver and at 90% no less. A great year. I remember being with my folks when they were looking at the new 1964 cars coming out. There was nobody at the lot but my dad liked looking at them.He always bought used cars. Those were the good old days. The good old 1960's. 😀

What a beautiful gun

The first handgun that I shot was Dad's .22lr Kimel Western Six. My first handgun Was a Crosman CO2 powered copy of a S&W auto pistol. my first "real" handgun was a Ruger Mark I with a 5.5" bull barrel given to me from my father. It's a 1982 model, made just prior to the cut-over to the Mark II. I still have it. Made some wooden grips from Mesquite for it.

My MK I was stolen over 20 years ago and once each year since the State Police contact me to see if I have 'found' it. I called the Sergeant this year, instead of mailing an answer. I told him that if it ever returned he would be the third person to know; my wife would be the second, and I obviously would be the first

No, it was a H&R .22 rimfire revolver model 922. They cylinder did not swing out but you had to pull out the cylinder pin to remove the cylinder to unload it. You then took the ejector pin and had to put it back in the cylinder to eject the cases, you then put the cylinder back in the gun and then pushed in the ejector pin. Darn it was a reliable and accurate little revolver. I wished I had never sold it. I bought it at age 16 off of my retired neighbor. Back then such transactions were not considered criminal or borderline insanity. My how things have changed in 60 years.

I have one of those with a four inch barrel. Sadly, many misfires. That is likely the ammo but I do not know.
