Tulsa booty! Been trying to locate a "correct" 44 FT with XR3red frame, and boy they are tough to locate.. Here is number 28535, shipped July 1962.. not mint, but honest carry and usage wear..the frame has that "smoky" color a lot of early XR3red frames have, and early varnished grips too..

Wow, that's one RARE GUN! The varnished grips are AWESOME!
I've a pair of these guns but the grips are "oiled"...and one pair of grips has the wrong vintage medallions.

But, the serial numbers are kinda "close" to each other......

PS Mr. Flattop .44 has a similar pair but his are, IIRC, one s/n away from my pair!

My pair is not consecutive :( but one of them has an unfluted Super cylinder.

29141 shipped Aug 1963 (fluted cyl)
29842 shipped Dec 1962 (unfluted cyl)

I've never seen XR3-RED varnished grips except refinished ones. Is that a finish that is known to have been done in the early days?

Congrats on a rare gun!

Flatgate, you are correct, mine are #28807 & 28808. I have seen a few early varnished XR3-RED panels. I believe that one or both of my Flattops mentioned above have varnished panels. I have had a couple of RSSs with early XR3-RED frames that had what appeared to be original varnished panels too.
My #29719 BKH47 & #29738 BKH46 with XR3-RED and non-flute cyl. both have oiled panels.
