Here's a couple of photos of the XR3 gripframe and grips on my factory refinished and converted ex-shooter grade .357 FT. I asked that they return my original XR3 gripframe. They did... complete with the last three digits of the serial number etched to match. I refinished the grips though.

Unconverted... who has three converted SR's in his stable.

Wow, nice grips!

Second wow, I see that Ruger DOES refinish aluminum grip frames.
(news to me but is probably something not all that new  )

Verrrrrry interesting!

It's news to me (nearly everything is) for sure.

Looks like the current "coating" that is furnished now.

Wonder if they will refinish just a grip frame? Hmmmm . . .

I believe Ten Ring Precision in San Antonio (Alex Hamilton) uses this same finish. It is a polymer coating that is very tough.

I've had both an old XR3 and an XR3-Red grip frame done there with excellent results. Cost was $45.00 per plus shipping.

Not in IL anymore ... :)
I bought a grip frame from a TRF member some time back. It had been refinished with that finish. The stuff was so thick the grip frame wouldn't fit any of my guns properly.

I ended up stripping the stuff off with Aircraft Paint Remover I bought at an auto parts store.
It looks good when it fits though.
