I have a custom stainless Bowie or Camp Knife with the makers name "R. Babcock" on the blade. The guy that gave me this told me it was made in the 1980s by an Alabama knifesmith named Richard or Ritchie Babcock and he called this model his "Alaskan Hunter."

To me it seems pretty big and heavy for a hunting knife and is more of a Bowie or fighting blade. It would make an excellent sideknife for a buckskin, CAS, or Civil War re-enactor, or a heavy duty survival knife for use. It is over 12 1/2" overall, with a 7 9/16" single edged blade with a clip point. Handle is a full 5" long w/curly maple scales held to the full tang with 5 brass rivets and a brass-lined lanyard hole. Blade and tang are one piece of stainless steel 1/8" thick with a worked brass half-guard that extends below the knuckles of the knife hand but no upper thumb guard. The guard is 2" wide at the top of the tang and tapers to 1/2" wide at the bottom below the hand. The steel type is not marked.

This knife has never been carried or sharpened and is in new condition. It has a full-length handmade tan leather sheath with belt loop and safety strap.

I can't put pix on this site but will email some to any serious buyer who will PM me his/her email address.
