Hi Guys, I'm hoping to find a reasonable pair of grips for both my 1976 Colt Python which currently has aftermarket grips and I'd like to find a nice set of original grips for at a reasonable price.

Feel free to email me directly if you'd like. Thanks!

FYI...there is a set of type two's in the classified section of Colt Forum. However, if you are interested in originality, I don't believe these are correct for your 1976. I think your vintage should wear type three's which have a straight line of checkering below a gold medallion.

$230 seems fairly reasonable for what appears to be only fair condition...plus I would make sure the medallions are gold. As pictured, they may just be worn down to base metal.

Again, if originality is important to you, I read that reproductions are becoming very common and you really need to be up to speed on what you are looking at.

Good luck, Mike

Mswill, where can I find out about the various types of Python grips?

ETA: Never mind, I found this wonderfully informative website on them:

I remember when you could buy them at gun shows all day long for $15 or so. I bought several back in the day. Not sure what happened to all of them. I am definitely using two. :?

For a mint pair of python grips you can expect to spend upwards of $450.00 plus easy. I picked a type 3 set up a while ago in great condition for $225.00 as seen on the first photo, the other is a type 2 1975 Python second photo with the other colt auto's.

Double check your serial number here

If its a 1976 issue then it's most probably a Type 2 grip loading gate/ thumbrest on left side only.

It's important to note that there are a lot of fake Python grips out there, look like the originals but still fake. One tell tail indication is a gold screw barrel in the grip itself. Original python grips have screw and barrel that are ALWAYS blue, no exceptions!
You will see them on ebay
Hope this helps

Good Luck
Chris
