Wish Ruger would make Taffin's if I could only choose one revolver!

John himself wrote his last revolver (if he were forced to choose) would be his 7.5 inch 44 magnum flat top. Come on Ruger! I want one with J.T. engraved on the back-strap with nice walnut that fit!

They'll make all the distributor orders. Be best to reach out to whichever deep pocket wholesaler had them done in the first place. Lipsey's I think.

Since Mr. Taffin has passed, I'm guessing someone will come out with another "commemorative"...(?)

You would be way better off to build your own…

Great Base Gun,,,
The 50th anniversary 44 flattops were the best quality flattops IMO, and for what ever reason they still are a good buy when located.

I didn't t care for the smaller XR3 "steel" grip frame. To small, especially w/ magnums, I have found many that felt the same and most likely why they are a good buy when located.

A 7.5" barrel is fairly east to acquire & swap.

Ronnie Wells has most any grip frame you can imagine.

My choice was to leave the 6.5" barrel,,, but looking & considering a swap to a 4.6" barrel.
I went with a RW Brass Hunter grip frame. Same size as the Super Blackhawk but with the rounded trigger guard. I did straighten the back strap to simulate the XR3.
Found & Fitted a set of the Stainless Hunter Laminate Grips that were some of the last of LETT era.
Super Blackhawk Hammer.

G2 is on the mark for a NM. For a few hundred more, it's not out of the question to build an Old Model 7.5" FT. The 7.5" originals are pricey but the 6.5" much less money & more obtainable. Surprisingly, Numrich has a few OM 7.5" Super BH barrels in stock @ $135.
While the main frame & barrel are at the smith, send GF to Chigs for fitted grips that you choose the blanks for. When it all comes home to you, head to the jewelers for the engraving.
The barrel fitter about the only bottleneck in this plan but it could come together quicker than Lipsey's & Ruger could make a decision. Much less, grandstand it with advertising & jack the price.

I have small hands, so the XR3 is almost perfect for me. Ronnie wells makes an XR3+ .3" grip frame that is the bees knees. I do love those 50th anniversary 44 mag flattops. I see them selling in new condition for $600-$700 very often. A lot of folks don't like the fact that, on virtually all of them, they milled the rear sight slot too shallow, and drilled the roll pin hole too high, so that the rear sight sticks up proud on the topstrap. I don't like this at all, but it's not a deal breaker. They are still very nice, and classically styled guns. I'd like one with a 4 5/8" barrel, myself.
