Interesting question.... according to www.midwayusa.com (this link specifically... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=913553 it might not.

Quote - Fits P89 models with serial number 304-70000 and above. UnQuote

However.... this MEC-GAR magazine does not have the disqualifying statement.... http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=187403

Maybe try the Mec-Gars.

I have an older 89 too and some fit and other don't. I mean I have several newer stainless mags and some fit and some don't. The ejector in the older unit is different and on some mags it hits the lip. I have not tried to fire the gun with the newer mag so not sure if it really wouldn't function but you can clearly see interference between the mag lip and ejector.

A little long winded but I wanted to be clear.

You can find the old style metal mags for 10 bucks if you look real hard.

I don't own any mecgar but have heard a lot of people say they are real good.

Personally if I could get a deal on a factory mag old or new I would buy it. Worst case it doesn't work and you resell it.

Post a pic of you 89. I like gun porn.

Mine starts with 312...love this gun, despite what people say about it being bulky and heavy. It seems so, but looking at measures, it's actualy not worse than many other popular guns.

here you go
this is a pretty early one serial num 303-4xxxx

Nice gun, that is early. The single sided decocker gives it away.
Mine is slightly newer with a 304-1 serial. Mine has the standard dual decock only levers. Still polished slide though.

Ok went to a gun shop that had some Pro Mags and Ruger mags , of course the ruger mags didnt fit and the Pro mags locked up very tight and the follower was alot thicker then mine and was alot closer to the ejector also. so i guess the hunt has begun for old mags.

I know this is a really old post but it's relevant to my question- I have a 2006 pc9 carbine and am looking at a early P89dc (303-4xxxx) as a companion for it… I know the pc9 and P89 mags are supposed to be interchangeable. Are the P89dc different or do these magazines interchange with the early pc9 carbines as well? Thanks

SN# 304-70000 and below use catalog #P15
SN# 304-70000 and above use catalog #P18

They changed the location of the mag catch hole in the magazine by .040" to make the magazine sit up higher in the mag well to encourage more straight line feeding from the mag into the chamber. Depending on tolerance stacking in certain guns the newer mags [P18] will not fully seat and latch in the pistol without bottoming out mechanically.

From what you wrote it sounds like this is an older P89 and takes the older magazines.... as I posted a year or so back I actually modified an older P89 to take the newer P magazines that would also work in the original PC Carbines... I think I took about 2,000 of an inch off of the magazine release part... not sure if it was the bottom part or top... might want to look at my post above it might be there....

Edit: I just looked at the two different magazines and the different in the latch hole on them is .042"
Here is a picture explaining the difference and like I said if you take that amount off of the top of the mag latch, the new magazines will work in older P89s.
