Ok, here goes. I'm selling both my KP95DPR & my KP89D to finance an SR9 (Don't try to talk me out of it :? ).

Ok, the 89 has been flawless. The 95 has seen what really amounts to NO range time. Yes, I really like both pistols, however, I do have smaller hands, and really desire a thinner profile. Plus I really like the idea of a sriker-fired pistol. The SR9 fits the bill. But to be quite honest, I might do the Glock or the M&P, or even the XDM (which BTW I found out just yesterday it was not approved by Ca., I guess we need the government to protect us or something  ), but it's simply not possible, as we's bein' po' (Translation, we aren't exactly well-to-do). Am I rambling?

Ok, back to the point, I AM selling the 95 and the 89 to finance an OD Green SR9 with Blackened slide. Without telling me to NOT get rid of the P's, convince me that I don't want an SR9.

Key info; This will be primarily a home defense pistol.

I would buy it. I have shot a friends SR9 and think it is a great handgun and one that I may buy in the future. Great grips on it and like you I have small hands, but that is one very nice pistol.

I would be different in that I never sell any firearm I have since although I can replace in the future I will always pay more and get less when I sell, but the SR9 is not that expensive here in TX, and it may be different in CA.

I can buy a new one here for about $375.

BUY the SR9 now!!! You'll love it and IF/When inflation kicks in, the price will just go up and it will be more difficult for you to buy it.

And as Wendy said, if you can swing it, keep the P's as long as possible because their value will only go up.

SR9 is my latest gun and first semi. I have a rule to only buy American (when it's an option), and really like the looks and feel. Paid $344 (before taxes) after Bass Pro matched a local dealer and got another 10% off by applying for their CC. Seen them as high as $478 locally, so I did VERY well on the price. Shop it. 8)

I can't give you a reason NOT to buy an SR9, I absolutely love mine. I would hate to have to get rid of a couple of P series pistols to finance it though. I sold a P89 a few years ago, wish I hadn't. But if and when you do it, you won't regret it. The SR9 is a fine pistol.

Can't speak to the KPs. My first pistol was the SR9. It's a great pistol. Very comfortable to shoot, lower recoil & muzzle flip than my buddy's S&W. Zero problems with over 1500 rounds. Accurate...on & on. Since it's for home defense, check out the link below. Veridian still has their promo going on their green laser, custom made for the SR9 at $149.00. Great laser as long as you don't want to carry w/Laser. The laser was ust featured on TV's NUMB3RS. http://www.viridiangreenlaser.com:80/

TNR I can't give you a reason to not buy one, I own one and love it. Though it hasn't seen the range in quite a few months. I agree with the others about keeping the P's, atleast one, but I totally understand if there's the NEED to use them to finance the SR9's purchase, I'm in that boat as well.

As you've read a few SR9s have seen their share of quirks and problems, but I wouldn't let them sour your want to buy the SR9. I'd rather you be an informed customer rather a surprised one if anything were to come up.

Over 1250 rounds through mine, ZERO issues. More than Combat Accurate if I do my part. Fun to shoot, as most reliable guns are, handles FMJ and JHP well. Recoil is light and easily managed, the only downside in my case is the heavy trigger. Ghost is coming out with the trigger upgrade soon, we hope, but it IS coming. I have a feeling the Ghost upgrade will be out sooner than any of the other SR__ models .

Another downside to the SR9, in your case, is your location, you'll have to settle on the -L models, which actually aren't any different on paper than the standard SR9-10 models. The -L just allows that particular model to be approved for sale in CA and MA....no difference from a technical standpoint that I'm aware of. Just a 10 round set of mags.

I bought the Black and stainless one shot it for a while and then bought the green and black one too. They are good shooting accurate, and easy to take down and clean. The hand gun hat trick. I have 2 of them. I carry one of them on occassion too. They are nice reliable pistols that shot holes right where you point them. The trigger gets a lot of bad press I think mostly from gun noise listeners and not so much from actual people who have shot them. It isn't the best trigger out there by any stretch but for a Poly striker weapon it is a very good one. BUY IT!!!!!!

You should get what fits your hand and what you shoot well TNR.

Can you swing buying the SR9 and testing it while keeping the 89 and 95? I just don't want to see you do something you can't undo.

Good luck either way. You might find a rental range that has an SR9 to try it out.

TNR, first I really don,t think anyone is going to talk you out of buying a SR9, my daughter and I both really enjoy shooting mine when we go to the range good thing I have more than one gun because when we go I don,t get to use it much  Second like everybody else unless your really not comfortable with your 89 or 95 I would keep them. Third I understand the money problems (so many guns so little money) I paid $495 + tax for mine I live in CA. also and they don,t give it to you cheap.
Last (finally) I,ve had few problems with my SR I got around 2000 rounds through it I mostly use Federal 115g FMJ from wally world ($10 a box) with no problems also when you buy yours follow the stickys advice, good luck, Dusterman

Sounds like you're decided already ... why ask people to talk you out of a decision that's already been cast in stone ? You state you ARE getting one, so what's the question ?

If the recall, continued peening issues, trigger reset issues, spring cup issues, and really bad trigger can't convince you, well ... then you're convinced !! :D I guess that there are NO OTHER guns in the marketplace without RUGER written on them, right ?

Hope you get a good one, Truth !!!! Personally, I'd keep the reliable P89 AND the P95, rather than trading guns 2 for 1, losing financially on both, in order to buy a gun with as many skeletons in it's closet as the SR9. All that, just to get a skinnier grip ? If you want a skinny grip, get a 1911 or a Sig P6 single stack 9MM ... they don't get any skinnier than that.

You asked ..... LOL !!! :D

Keep the P's ....

REV, the "don't try to talk me out of it" part had to do with the selling of the two P's to finance the new pistol.

On the other hand, the "Who wants to talk me out of an SR9" was to either sell me, or talk me out a SR9 purchase (nothing to do with the P's).

Did I clear that up?

In any case, I am somewhat apprehensive (which is why I mentioned the other pistols), however, it's either take a chance on the SR9, or wait 5+ years to MAYBE be able to purchase a pistol type that I really desire. I don't like waiting. Especially considering that I lived most of my life never having anything. I'm getting close to 50, I don't want to keep going through life saying "I wish I had one of those".

Most certainly not trying to talk you out of buying an SR9, but with the "skeletons" Rev mentioned, no one could talk me into buying one...yet. Your choice.

Oh, OK TNR. Then I'd say go to some stores, touch and feel as many pistols as possible, try to shoot any you like (maybe rental), and buy what you like the most !!

I agree with everyone else about renting TNR. I think it would be really good idea if at all possible to try before you buy. If you could rent all the ones you are considering & compare I think that would be best. I hope you are happy with whatever you decide on.

I haven't seen a NEW one for under $420.00

My biggest issue with the SR9 now is that information has surfaced that their may have been a design flaw with the barrel/slide tolerances that cause peening on way too many models. This issue has me worried. Other than that I had pretty much picked the SR9 over the P95. I still have my P89 for sale. But I'm liking the features of the Springfield XDM

OK, so if that's what you really want, just buy one.

I too have sort of wanted an SR9 mostly because it was decent looking, rather inexpensive and a Ruger. I have three Ruger revolvers and one Smith and Wesson revolver. I'd not give up any of them for an SR9. Over the years I have traded off guns and other "stuff" to get something new and different and ended up wishing that I had kept what I had. Something to think about.

Apparently whatever you buy will not see a heck of a lot of use. Most reviews other than those posted on this forum and the "other" Ruger forum have been quite good. I'll just bet that if you bought one, it would not be used enough for it to develop the problems that have been brought up here.

Oh, being almost 50 is nothing. Just wait until you are 67 and are still thinking, "I wish I had one of those."

Tom

p.s. IMO the SR9 is the best looking of the striker-fired polymer handguns.

Well thanks everyone for the input, much appreciated.

DA_TriggR4Ruger, I also like the XDM, but as stated earlier, can't afford the price AND NANNYfornia won't let us have any.

If I went ahead with the plan, I'd sure try and get a post-recall model, and the latest one I could.
