I am looking for a scope to put on my first Ruger M77 MkII RSI in .308 which has the polished blue finish (not matte like the Hawkeye)
I do not want the scope to over power the gun or take away from the looks.
However, I want to be able to have a good picture and shoot deer up to 200 yards.
I am considering the VX-2 in 2x7x33 or fixed 6 FX-II.
What are your thoughts?
Would you mess the B&C Reticle or just Duplex?
One last word - I have several Matte Finish Leupold on guns that have polished steel and they look fine to me. I do not think I would like the Gloss Finish on this gun.
Thanks

I have 2x7x33 on most of my rifles, just the right size scope IMO. I have been through many, to many, and stupidly to many different size scopes from different manufacturer"s. Most of my rifles now wear Nikon Monarch's which I think have excellent glass. I did put a Redfield Revolution on my Ruger Hornet that seems like a good value for the money so far. I'm sure eventually it will also be sporting a Nikon. JMO.

I might add, all my scopes are now matte finish with a standard duplex.

Another scope I had on my .308 RSI was a Nikon Monarch 1.5 x 4.5, another good choice. Fine accuracy from this rifle after I installed a Jard trigger kit.

For 200yd deer the FX-II 4X33 or 6X36 will do just fine. That said I have the VX2 2-7X33 with LRD on my 77 308 Hawkeye, and a FX-II 4X33 on a Ruger 257 Ultra lite.

2-7X33 on .308 Hawkeye

4X33 .257 Hawkeye.
