I've been to four stores today and none of them had buttermilk in any size. Nobody at the store seems to know why they don't have any. I guess there must be a big buttermilk shortage or everybody else has also the same buttermilk barbecue chicken that I like.
Just thought this would make an interesting thread

Five or so years ago I ran into this same problem. My solution? Hoosier Hill Farm powdered buttermilk. Long shelf life & right there when I need it. I also get powdered whole milk there for the few recipes that I can't use buttermilk.

They also sell direct on Amazon & Ebay, same price.

Put lemon juice in whole milk. Aint quite as good as buttermilk, but makes better cornbread than whole milk

Isn't the powdered stuff fat free? I call fat free, flavor free.....
I personally don't care for Bovine mammary extract in the raw or even pasteurized... but I do like the derivatives we make from it... like cheese and ice cream. I do buy regular milk to make pancakes with but refuse to buy that skinny stuff....
I will admit butter milk is better when making pancakes....

No shortage of buttermilk here in Iuka, Mississippi....I guess because folks here still know how to make biscuits and corn bread..LOL.

I don't care to drink buttermilk, but cooking with it in certain recipes makes all the difference in the world in taste over just using regular whole milk. Hadn't heard of powdered buttermilk, gonna have to check it out and keep some on hand if I can't find any fresh and need it.

It's of limited supply up here. Not exactly common, you take what they have when you find it.

It's a damn shame too, I didn't see any use for years. Finally made a point to use it 15yrs ago I guess. As is commonly known biscuits and pancakes are so much better. I hate doing without these days, went without for 20hrs I bet.

All this talk about buttermilk has me craving a bowl of buttermilk and cornbread. Think I'll go to the kitchen and have some.

Let's give the recipe please

The buttermilk is used along with sugar parsley a little bit of salt and pepper to taste. Mix it together put the chicken in a bowl and coat with the buttermilk mixture cover leave in the refrigerator overnight. Rinse the chicken and Pat dry and put on the grill with your favorite seasoning or marinade. I use my smoker and Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce and cook them for about six hours until they reached 145 internal temp. This was for split chickens, what I used, but also for whole chickens or drumstick, thighs, etc..
