I am using numbers others on the forum have thrown around. 13 million .22 LR are made a day so 4.8 Trillion are made yearly. Wow how come I can't find it? So there are 90 million gun owners divided into the 4.8 T =52 or one box of cartridges/gun owner. Now that makes sense to me

Well, a lot of ammo is being made, AND sold. Many folks are buying & not selling or using. Until all those who are buying & not using or selling slow down or quit, the supply will be limited. But, as folks who get enough ammo to feel comfortable quit buying, the demand will decrease, and the supply will increase. I have heard a lot of comments from friends who are not shooting as much, and just buying & keeping ammo so they have some "just in case." I have a local neighborhood teen who I used to hear shoot 50-200 rounds a day. I haven't heard him shooting in months,, at all.
It's gonna take a while to return to an available supply.

and as far as reloading supplies and tools, even more bizarre. There is a bazillion new reloaders out there with closets full of loading stuff that don't know what to do with it all, and, another bazillion that want to reload that have hoarded closets full of components. What is even more bizarre is that the internet forums that discuss reloading practices are full these 2 bazillion ppl giving reloading advice based on their own logic and what they have read in books and other internet sources concerning reloading...entertaing to say the least. I do wish we could go back to the old days where I could go to the store and buy what I want when I want...

Here ya go;

Looks like plenty of .22LR can be had at .06-.20 per pop, depending on what type one wants.

I have ben trying to buy cci minimags for 7 months, Still empty handed. the stores get them in ocasionly, There gone in 20 minnutes. Bottom line is the manufactures of ammo, bullets, reloading components have been extremly slow to respond to this crises, And have done a terrible job of supplying us shooters. You would think after 7 straight months of shortages, they would correct the supply issue? They must have there heads burried in the sand!! Take a look at midways ammo selection, Its the same old thing out of stock, No back order.

I am starting to see ammo show up on the shelves. I actually saw a box of WWB in 9mm on the shelf at Wally World this week. My buddy picked me up a small brick of .22lr last week at a different Wally World in town. Primers are starting to show up at LGS, although it is spotty. Still haven't seen any pistol powder in stock any where.

The local indoor range I frequent seems to no be as busy as I remember it being last year.

People are scared. With that idiot in the white house, the entire news media against us, and the financial crisis here in this country, the ammo shortage is understandable.

After hurricane Katrina I was caught short on ammo supply. I promised myself I would not do that again.
I am proud to say that even with this latest scare I have some of everything I shoot and the ability to make more of everything I shoot.

I've purchased over 40 boxes of Mini-Mags in the last 3 months from Cabela's online. They offer free shipping to the store and they will hold them for 20 days…..or longer if you call them. Gives a guy time to place more orders and pick up multiple orders on just one trip to the store.
BTW, the best time to find 22 ammo in stock @ Cabela's online is early in the morning… probably around 0530-0630.

Thanks for the tip! I dont think we have any cabellas stores here in ca, I wish we did. I will check them out though. How often do they have mini mags in stock?

I need a little math help - that is to say that Engineering Math was a long time ago and I have forget lots and lots and lots.......
I think this is how the numbers work out:

4.8 Trillion = 4.8 X 10 (to the) 12th
90 Million = 90 X 10 (to the) 6th

4.8 X 10 (to the) 12 divided by 90 X 10 (to the) 6 = 4.8 X 10 (to the 6th) divided by 90
or 4,800,000 divided by 90 = 53,333
or 1066 boxes of 50 per gun owner per year

I can't make it come out any other way but what do I know

How many boxes of 50 can you fit into a 2 car garage, and how much credit card interest will you have to pay...?

Well let me see 13,000,000 x 365=1,235,000,000 divided by 90,000,000=13.722 rounds per person. The small calculator was wrong with previous. Still when you see a full auto .22 LR empty 1000 rnds in seconds or people stocking up it isn't hard to see where the ammo goes. Thanks for catching the error. I have ditched that calculator

No matter how you figure it.... I'd still like to see some on the shelves ;) ..... Like above we are in a catch 22. Some want some to just shoot. Others (like me) have enough to shoot but want to 'restock' to normal levels .... I need around 12 bulk boxes now to get back to normal..... As time continues it just going to get worse.

You think ammo is bad.... go to any of the big internet sites Midway, midsouthshooterssupply, Grafs, etc... and try to find reloading components in stock. Unless you are looking for premium big game solid bullets ($$$) almost everything is out of stock. I was looking for some 30 cal. 150 gr. flat points to load some 30-30 rounds and couldn't find any.

I got some of those I could gouge you on.

I can't speak for all calibers of ammo, but as far as .22 goes, I'm finding it with much more regularity than before.

This week alone I found some @ Dick's, BassPro and one of the local shops I frequent. I didn't need much but I did pick up 100 rounds (two 50 round boxes) of subsonic and 120 rounds (three 40 round boxes) of federal ammo.

All three stores had plenty to sell.
