I have a SR1911 that the front sight popped off. I guess this isn't exactly uncommon. I want to get some nice optical sights to replace it with.

1) Anyone have any recommendations?

2) Where do I go to get this done? How do I know who to trust to do a good job, etc.?

Thanks!

If your looking for just different sights I would check out novak. Ruger uses the novak dovetail cut for the front and rear sight. The factory sights are novak. Anyways novak has numerous styles of front and rear sights. They will install them for you, pistol sights is about all they do so they will do the job right. All you need to send them is your slide to have the sights installed.

I would look at Trijicon sights, but any brand that fits a 1911 should fit far as I know.

The novak cut is not always standard to all 1911. Nearly all newer ones with dovetailed sights tend to have the novak style dovetail. Nearly every sight makes makes a sight for novak cut. If it says it will fit novak it will fit the SR1911.

So this novack cut you speak of, what is different about it than a standard dovetail?

Different dimensions is all. Would have to look up the specifics. For whatever reason they designed their sights with certain dimensions they felt were optimal. Those dimensions became very popular and are nearly standard throughout the gun industry now.
