Anybody remember "The Death of Floyd Collins?" I think that was well before my time, but we had a record of it in the 'Forties.

Well, to answer the original question the answer is "Dancing in the Streets", by Martha and the Vandellas. Since then there have been many more. I cannot today pick one favorite, but I know the tunes of about 100 or more, and can identify them within three notes, usually.

I have heard it done by Ronnie Hawkins but it was called The Tale of Floyd Collins. The original was from the 1920's not long after Floyd Collins died. The Kirk Douglas movie ACE in the Hole is based on a similar situation

OP Vito mentioned "Come Go With Me". That title is memorable because back in the late 50's some custom cars had a title of a song painted on the rear fenders. I remember this title was on a black '57 Chevy Convertible. My buddy had a red 1950 Chevy with "Cherry Pie" on the side. Finally, I saw a '59 Chevy with "Urgin' Virgin" on the side. Very cool. On Hot August Nights events held here in Sparks and around various casinos around the Truckee Meadows (yes, including Reno) none of the old cars have anything of the side rear fenders. So, I don't think 'em authentic. Of course a lot of the cars are for sale and the songs would mean something personal to the current owners.
Everyone mentioning their favorite songs yields an idea as to how old everyone is.
Of my fave, it is "Oh, What a Night", a R&B song by the Dells, great for slow dancing with a lovely damsel. So, that song would put me just about, almost 80. Wait tomorrow (Sat) I will be 80! ;) :)

What Have They Done to My Song, Ma-
Melanie. It had regular airplay as a kid and I would sing with it. Mom jumped me about making up lyrics till she listened to it. Lol
