My one centerfire semiautomatic pistol is an 80s vintage Beretta 92SB Compact in 9mm. I actually prefer the double-stack 92-series Compacts to the full size versions as they seem to fit my hand better. That seems to hold true for me for equivalent guns from other manufacturers, at least in that caliber.

Were I to do it all over again, I'd likely look first at a CZ-75 or a Browning Hi-Power (probably the Springfield Armory SA-35 version of the latter). As things stand, though, what with all the magazines and accessories I already have for my Beretta - and as expensive as guns and their accessories are getting - I'd probably pick up another one of those in the more modern 92FC or 92XC version.

Actually, let me update this.
The Browning HiPower is my overall favorite, but broken down into size per the original question:

Extra Small: Seecamp LWS-32

Large: S&W 25-5 .45 Colt
"Large-Medium": Ruger Blackhawk .44 Spl or S&W 69 .44 Mag

.38 Super 1911s
S&W 12 (Airweight K frame .38, which they should bring back).

I've been a die hard 1911 guy for decades when it comes to autos, but I am having real fun with a Taurus tx22 right now.

I seems to me that the most popular handguns being purchased today are for concealed carry and are small to medium size guns. What I'm curious about is what is your favorite full size Semi-Auto. Now if you want to add the medium size guns and the smallish size guns in Semi-Auto, because that's the topic scope, you can add that. If you have more than one please list them. Who knows, someone may decide to give something else a try. I will list mine down the line.
So, Full Size
Medium Size
Smaller Size
Kimber custom shop 45 full size
Browning high power 9mm full size
Springfield range officer 9mm medium
Kimber pro carry 45 medium
Colt defender 45 small size
