Waxed lead RN 22 rimfire bullets don't feed well in single-stack magazine for the Ruger Mk II when the temperature is cold. The wax hardens, and prevents the bullets from feeding into the chamber. So in cold weather shooting, switch to copper coated bullets. I know, you guys probably already knew this, right ? I was glad I learned this on the range instead of the woods.

Most of the 22s I have used have a wax lubricant on them, unless they are copper plated. If you rub a finger nail on the bullet, you will etch off some of the lube.

My Hgh Standard Sentinel revolver doesn't accept outside-lube .22's, summer or winter. They have to be forced in. I haven't tried cold-weather shooting with my MKIII. I'll have to check this out.

Yea, you should try it. Don't want to be stuck hunting with a non-functional pistol.

I've never seen waxed bullets. How do you know if the rounds you have are waxed? Is it easy to tell, or is it written on the box?

No it's not written on the box. A lot of lead bullets are wax coated, aquila comes to mind. No way to really tell unless you buy some.
