The .45 ACP made its reputation on 230 gr ball ammo. It works. That bullet is moving at around 600 miles per hour and it weighs over 1/2 ounce. It makes a large hole and it takes a while to slow down so it goes deep.
I use WWB 230 FMJ for range and WWB 230 JHP for carry ammo. I'm pretty much using the same round for range and carry. That works too.
Those +P rounds will give a snappier recoil, possibly delaying getting back on target for a follow shot. It may only be a tenth of a second or so, but we're talking life or death here. And those hot loads will definitely put more wear and tear on the gun. Just another one of the advantages of using the original 230 gr low pressure load. Yeah, those lighter, high pressure bullets get there faster. measured in milliseconds
Go with what is comfortable to you, but think about all the effects of using heavy bullets, generally recommended,, or lighter, faster bullets.
