What do you think about your state - bad and good?

In Oklahoma, the wind blows all the time. ALL THE TIME. Might seem minor but it's maybe my number one complaint.
The weather tries to kill you every 3-4 years. Storm shelter takes up a big chunk of my garage. Some really bad heat in the summer.
Some of the legislators seem to be astonishingly and embarrassingly stupid (which makes me wonder how they were elected).
Not a lot of nice scenery. Some I guess but not much. I wish we had some real mountains.
Doesn't directly affect me any more but we felt we had to use private schools. My daughter is already very worried about her 7 month old son's school options.
Roads can be really bad.

Things I like.
People are generally nice and helpful. People will start conversations with me all the time while standing in line or pumping gas.
Gun laws are pretty good.
Gas is usually relatively inexpensive.
Deer, hog, and turkey hunting is pretty good.
I can't recall ever feeling unsafe - except that one time in the creek with all of those feral hogs. :)
I don't drive during rush hour anymore but traffic is mostly not bad.

How is it in your state? I already know you're full but I'm especially hoping to hear from Utah and Idaho.

OKLAHOMA WHERE THE WIND COMES SWEEPING CROSS THE PLAINS !! Tornadoes are not as bad as they are in Kansas and much of it depends on where you live in Okla; As I recall Bartlesville wasn't that bad and neither was it that bad north of Okla City near Edmond. My high school In B'ville was GREAT but that was years ago (Class of 1959).

Tennessee pretty much has anything you may like. The urban areas have issues but then so do many cities in other areas.

Hi...
Pennsylvania is getting worse by the day.
High taxes, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh keep forcing more and more extreme liberal progressive politicians into state and federal offices.
Conservatives aren't happy because the Democrats are trying to turn Pennsylvania into California and Democrats aren't happy because they never are and never will be happy.

You know I never though about it that way; When I lived in California the people who were most happy were not Democrats or Liberals. :)

Texas is good. I’m still not accustomed to the friendly people. When they come up and start a conversation. I’m not sure I even like it. Two years of living in New Jersey got me used to the complete opposite.

But for the most part we don’t have issues with the governmental bureaucracy. I’m sure it exists but we don’t see it too much.

My Maryland's Democrat politics suck however I live in a Country that's much more Conservative. Maryland gets a lot of bad press because of Baltimore City. Overall the State has a little of everything. The ocean, the Chesapeake Bay, the historical places like Annapolis which has the oldest State Capitol building still in use in the US and where George Washington resigned his Commission. Then there is the US Naval Academy. St Mary's City. Harve de Grace (3 miles from me). lost becoming the Nation's Capitol by one vote, we have a large portion of the 'underground railroad' that can be visited. The Nation's first railroad museum . The mountains of Western MD. Then there are the crabs. Steamed, fried soft and crab cakes.

The food, from the pizza place down the street to the most Michelin rated eats in the country and near the top on the planet.
Sports, Baseball(Yankees,Mets), Football( Giants, Jets, we‘ll include Bills), Boxing, Hockey( Rangers,Islanders), horse racing( Belmont triple crown), Basket Ball( Knicks,Nets),
Concerts, of course Madison Square, and these just in Manhattan. So many historic places and shows https://concertfix.com/concerts/new-york-ny+venues
Mandmade landmarks- the list is long. Empire State, Chrysler, WTC(RIP), Statue of Liberty …..
natural landmarks- many don’t realize how beautiful the state is
The Atlantic Ocean is 20 minutes from me and the LI Sound 10 minutes. I spend much time on the water and can’t live without Salt Life fishing, diving, skiing.
Museums, Natural History( sorry TR), MoMa, Guggenheim and many more

That’s some of the good, we all know the bad. Thankfully we’re on LI which is mostly red and not usually associated with the crap that happens in the 5 boroughs. I’m surrounded by water, have my ranges to go to, hunt here or go upstate to big bucks. Spent much of my life here but in 3 years we’re out! as Joe Walsh said,”Life’s been good to me far” but were looking forward to sayounara NY.

I think it's easy to find good and bad in every state.

But in general,, often, it's the people who make it one way or the other.

Each state has it's own unique topography & look about it. And then, depending upon what a person desires,, the grass can seem greener on the other side of the fence.

I've been fortunate to having experienced many states,, living in a few,, yet,, spending time in others enough to see both good & bad almost everywhere.
But as always,, it's the people that seem to make the biggest difference.

Yea, but do you have any specific thoughts about NC that might interest us? I'd say that people are actually pretty nice everywhere - at least the places I've been.

Georgia is great. We have the beach (ignore the liberal idiots in Savannah), and the mountains. I'm in the middle. Red dirt, Pine trees and Georgia sunshine are in my blood I guess. I don't reckon I will ever leave.
On the other hand, there's Atlanta, which was a cool city when it was still Southern. Best to avoid it but if you have to go, at least stop and get a chili cheese dog at the Varsity so you'll have one pleasant memory.

The best part about South Dakota is that no one thinks it is worth anything. We have a few tourists that mostly stay on I 90 and go to the Black Hills. The rest of the state is left to residents for the most part. We have some Minnesotans that come here to kill pheasants and ducks, but they do go back home, thankfully. There is nothing here except some marginal farmland. Stay away, go somewhere else.

I don't want to brag up my local area. My home county is already 60+% 'non-resident' owned. This means vey little local income from land owners. Also means local property taxes are reduced because very few non-residents have houses, vehicles, or equipment on the local county tax roles.

The good.....every type of terrain/scenery offered. Plenty of critters, wet(fresh and salt water)and dry(native and exotics) Good roads. Great economy, lots of jobs. We have Shiner, Blue Bell, sausage and kolache.

The less than good....we are filling up too fast with liberal mindset. The large cities are full of them. Hot and/or humid in the summer depending on locale. Hurricanes, tornados and too much rain at times. The border.
