On advice of my retina specialist I sold off my high caliber rifles and Contender barrels, my other center fire rifle caliber Contender barrels and a .220 Swift that was a safe queen and nowhere as accurate as my other varmint rifles. I still have a NEF .25-06 that I have to range test to see if the extraction problem has been corrected by my gunsmith. If it has it will be put up for sale on Gun Broker. Kept my shotguns and Marlin 1894S .44 Magnum. Replaced what was sold with low recoil Rugers: PC .9mm Carbine; LC 5.7x28; Hi-Point (don't laugh) .45ACP and Mini-14 Ranch .556. After sitting in the safe for 4 years I took my NEF .204 Ruger to the range last week and really enjoyed shooting it. Now I'm thinking of getting a Ruger American Predator in .204 Ruger.

Nothing wrong with any of your low recoil pieces. The 45ACP Carbine that I have is a Beretta CX4. No 5.7x28 here but the other 2 are great. Mini 14 is not the evil black rifle so is a plus in some places. The PC Carbine is also palatable to certain people in power as well.

We moved and I lost my area to reload. I'm down to .22lr, 9mm, 556/223, and occasionally .380 for an LCP Custom. I can buy the .22lr, 9mm and 556/223 relatively cheaply considering these times. I sold my .38 and .357 revolvers when I could no longer reload
I can use my Lee hand press just about anywhere. My perfect powder measure and scale is all I need along with the dies.

I guess I haven’t been very clear.
Let’s say someone has 6 44 mags or
8 22 LR handguns or
10 9mm pieces.
If you’re in your 70’s not getting around all that well, and only one child to pass things on to,
If that were your situation, how many guns can you comfortably get down to, given the above.
Nd let’s add that your wife has no interest in guns.

Bear Paw I'm 77. My son is 52. He shoots some but not a lot and prefers to shoot .22 target rifles for tiny groups. I've given him .22 rifles he likes. Guns I like to shoot or I think he may want after my shooting days are over, I keep. A Brno Model 3 made in 1955 and a Marlin 39A made in 1983 are examples of "keepers" though not shot often. Guns that I don't shoot, or carry and he doesn't have an interest in, I've sold. I have sold off a number of handguns as a result. The only handgun I've kept that I rarely shoot is a collectable S&W model 65-6, 3" barrel, round butt, produced through the "Custom" shop (no longer made) with original box and all the papers. A beautiful gun and its value will keep up with or exceed inflation. Shorter answer-if I'm not shooting a gun reasonably often, my son doesn't want it or may not want it, it gets sold. If you find a way for us to "take our guns with us", let me know and I won't sell any more :)

I’ve got two kids. Both shoot (one went through USMC sniper training). When I die they’ll get what I have. Less what their mom keeps.

So, I just buy stuff to enjoy and don’t worry about when I’m dead. Can’t do anything about things then anyway.

Interesting point. I'm nowhere near 70, and have already started thinking about how to justify yet again another 9mm. I buy a gun if it's something interesting that I would enjoy shooting. But it's got to be different that what I already have. Say a different trigger for example, or different sights. Right now, I'm buying ammunition off and on in calibers I don't have yet. For example I don't have a 45 ACP, or 380. I know I won't ever shoot enough of those calibers to justify reloading, so I'm just buying ammunition a little at a time for a future gun.

I haven't sold anything because values are still going up. They may not get shot, but guns can just sit in a dark spot of the safe and be just fine.
