Has anyone here ever sent an old Weaver scope in to be repaired or refurbished? If so, where do they have to go, and what kind of costs are involved?
I have an old 4x and a 2.5x, both in decent shape, but the lenses are foggy. I've heard of people ending them off for repair, and need some info.
I want to put them on a couple of Marlin .22s, an old 39A and a .22 mag 1894. They're a nice size and power, I just don't know if it's worth it or not.
Any info appreciated.

Thx

the last scopes i sent in were a foggy tasco, and 3 foggy leupolds.
Tasco sent a new one free, and Leupold repaired and refurbished them all at no charge. Call Weaver and ask them.

Here is some scope repair info. I sent a Redfield out to abousa shown on the bottom Cost about 100 but it was a 12 x so it was worth it, Generally most scopes are not worth repairing IMO

Give this a try. This is run by Frank , the old plant manager from the old Weaver Co. back in the 80's. I think the shop may be closed now but I have sent many K-4's and a K-6 in for repair. The scopes were inspected , crosshairs calibrated , new lenses and seals , purged and nitrogen filled for about $50 + shipping. Those old Weavers are great scopes and the service I received was first class and my scopes are like new now.

If this doesn't work I don't know who would work on the old Weavers. I would be interested to know who does if you find someone.

OK. I thought I heard that somewhere. Too bad someone isn't going to keep the place opened. Everything I ever sent there came back looking like new and worked!

I appreciate the info guys. I'll make a couple of calls in the next few days and see what I can find out.

I'd rather put a 'period correct' scope on the .22s. Looks better, and I'm not going to be huting with them in nasty, wet weather. I'm just not into the big 40-50mm objective lens scopes, and don't need huge magnification. Ain't gonna make any 100 yard head shots on a squirrel!

Hopefully I can get something going for less than the cost of a new scope. Went to a gunshow yesterday looking for an older used scope. 1 guy had a 3x Weaver wide view, wouldn't budge .01 off his $100 price, and didn't want to do any trading. Another guy had a Leupold VX1 4x rimfire scope, wanted $175, and didn't like it when I told him I could buy a new 1 for around $200. Geez.
Thx

sebtool,

I regularly pick up old Weavers for $40 to $60 in very nice shape. My only requirement used to be that the tube was in good shape so I didn't have the extra cost of rebluing the tube or eye piece. But that was when I had a good source for rebuilding them. I would usually only have $100 tops stuck into a refinished scope that looked like new. Of course until another reliable outfit is found to rebuild them the requirements for condition just went up.

Don't fool yourself...I have a K-6 w/fine crosshairs that was made in 1967 that has been rebuilt with new lenses and the works and you can make those 100 yard shots on a squirrel no problem. 8)

Well, what can I say - I'm slippin' in my old age - I try to limit my headshots to 80 yds or so, unless of course, it's a big ol' fat, red squirrel, then I'll go about 90.....

Now, my lil' bro Jethro Bodean, he can still take the 100 yd head shots with open sights, but he's a real stud!

Strictly uses Stingers, of course....
