I spent a bunch of time around Dan when I was a kid. He was at Boy Scout summer camp range teaching marksmanship many times. He was a close friend of my dad and I was lucky enough to get to shoot many of his guns. Thompson, BAR, Reising, M16 shorty, Colt single actions.
He carried a S&W model 25 45 Colt.
Really nice guy, he quail hunted with us several times.
I remember my mom was working at Kingfisher hospital when he had a self inflicted gunshot in his crotch with a 1911. Drove himself to the Kingfisher ER, walked into the hospital and got on the exam table....tough man.

Mandatory read for anyone who carries a handgun every day. When I was about 14 I met Bill Jordan through Border Patrol instructor Harold Frakes who was my grandpa's best friend. We were in McAllen Tx for Christmas and got to go shoot with Border Patrol guys. My dad told me that day I had been hanging out with legends.

You cannot disarm a man who refuses to be disarmed. All you can do is kill him. If you wound him he'll recover and rearm. If you put him in jail, he'll get out eventually and rearm.
