Watch out for Gatoraid.....

Not surprising...isn't Gatorade full of salt and other minerals?

Geeze...makes me want to drink a bunch of that gut rotter.....
Just 'cause it ate off a gun's finish doesn't necessarily mean it's bad for you. Your blood wouldn't do the gun finish a lot of good, either.

Yeah, but human blood is not normally part of my diet! :p

It's not part of your diet but I'll but you're just full of the stuff!

I would assume its because of the high amount of salts in the Gatorade.

That being said, I agree, Gatorade is just glorified kool-aid full of high fructose corn syrup and other wonderful chemical creations.

I wouldn't feed it to my enemy's dog. ;)

About 10 years ago I worked for a month or two. at the local Gatorade bottling facility (we changed out the ductwork feeding a clean room, put guards on some machinery & built a cat walk). They provided as much Gatorade as you cared to drink in their break room. Some of the guys noticed that after drinking large amounts of certain flavors for a few days the color of their poop changed. I don't know what all they put in it but I did notice a lot of tanker trucks with the Dixie Crystals logo on them being pumped out there. I would think that damage is probably the results of salts though.

Say what you will about the stuff, but I sweat a lot in the summer working in 100+ heat and have always loved a big mug of ice tea as a refresher when I took a break. I started feeling ragged out and like something was missing, but I didn't know what. I bought a can of gatoraid mix at walmart and mixed up some to drink when I take a break. I didn't care for the taste, but really felt better physically after drinking it instead of ice tea. Now I drink it a lot and am getting use to the taste. I believe it may have something to do with the electrolites, but medically trained people would know if that is myth or not. It may be in my head but, I do feel better and recover faster from working in the hot sun now.

There's nothing wrong with Gatoraid if you're doing extreme physical work, sweating profusely, and losing electrolytes. But for a normal drink, it's really hard on the kidneys and the extra salts can cause other problems. Ask anyone who has had kidney problems. They stay very far away from the stuff.

I'm not surprised the gator aid makes you feel better. While I love sweet tea it is not the best thing to drink when dehydrated. Coffee & tea are diuretics they actually make your body lose fluids faster. When I work out in the kind of heat you are describing I usually drink lots & lots of water. From time to time I drink gatorade too but water is my mainstay.

Guess some people work harder than others. Gatoraid helps prevent cramps when I've been hard at it all day. Most of the time, I'm not in a position to stop and drink water every few minutes but a quart of Gatoraid helps me catch up quicker than just plain water. Enjoy your own opinion as I will mine.

Be careful; it's terrible for your teeth.... the acids are much worse than soda.

Sip it all day long, and the acids will eat the enamel off your teeth...and then decay.

Gatorade was formulated at the University of Florida to help prevent dehydration in Gator football players during practice and play in the hot Florida sun. It works great for that and I always take a bottle along when fishing or shooting here in central Florida.

If you think Gatorade can cause problems with finishes, try Coke! I love the stuff, but had it eat the finish off of a terrazzo floor in my living room. A kid spilled some Coke and we didn't notice it until the next day. When my wife wiped up the spot the floor's finish under it was eaten through.
