Warnings on new firearms

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Liability issues and insurance companies have resulted in some weapons having absolutely horrific trigger pulls. Which of course can be rectified with a spring kit or aftermarket trigger, or both.

I'm glad guns don't have pictures of injuries on them like snow blowers and lawnmowers do.

Yes. But the cure is simple. Do away with lawsuits for frivolous things. That's what led to the current state of affairs.
Exactly this !...simple...like most European countries, 'Loser"pays All costs...this one change would drastically reduce suits, But the lawyers lobbies are too strong and would never consent

I would bet that unlike many of the comments here, many actually like the model of the gun permanently engraved on the barrel for all to see. I still see cars with the make of the vehicle in big decal letters on the rear window. At first I thought that it was for drivers who forgot what car they were driving, but then realized it was drivers who wanted to show the rest of us what brand they were loyally supporting. There are likely gun owners who when at the range are terrified that their expensive Colt Python might be mistaken for some low cost revolver by other shooters. Having the word "Python" clearly visible makes sure that there is no misunderstanding about their gun.

Sterile is good….

Never understood that. My BMWs had a BMW roundel on the hood and the distrinctive grill. Why would I need "BMW" in six inch high letters on the windshield?

It annoyed me enough to take a 4 inch grinder and remove that from the barrel of an original Vaquero in SS. I was pissed off by it, offended. It was done neatly enough that the current owner can have his name engraved in the spot or some other message. "Front Towards Enemy" might have meaning here. ;) .

How about BULLET COMES OUT HERE with an arrow pointing toward the muzzle?

Years ago firearm manufacturers started engraving frames and barrels with warnings about "read the maual first"
Caution, danger!
Then Smith & Wesson put the "Hillary Hole" in the frame so you could lock the action, making the gun safe, and usless.
The new Colts have a QR code permanently etched into the frame.
Can you imagine buying a new car and permanently engraved on the dashboard in large letters, "please read the owners manual before driving".
Go to McDonalds, order a coffee. " Caution. Hot. May cause burns"
Does this annoy you?
Safety warnings and manual safeties on firearms bother me not a bit. This is why we have anti-lock brakes, safety glass in windshields, back up safeties on lawn mowers, back up cameras on new automobiles, child safety caps on medicine etc. etc. Safeties and saftey warnings are there for a very practical reason, "They save Lives" and lots of them.

When you consider the average educational level of the average American, which studies now show is at the 5th grade level, we probably need more "safety warnings" and safety devices not less.

I will give you a recent example of pure stupidity, again at the 5th grade level, I have an acquaintance that told me he blew up his Remington 700 Rifle. I asked him what he did? He said that he followed the hand loading manual precisely (which he said is defective) He said "I went according to the defective loading manual", "I started with the maximum load and worked up". Now tell me we do not need more safety warnings for geniuses like this guy.

I hated that billboard warning that defaced the side of the barrel on the last Vaquero that I purchased. So when it had to go back to Ruger for some unrelated repair, I asked them to replace the barrel with a newer barrel that has the warning hidden on the bottom. They did it- for free even. I doubt I'd get that same deal a second time…

Much better…

I've NEVER been able to understand why Ruger didn't put it in that location from beginning? 🤔

I would not buy a firearm that had "Raging" anything on it for the same reason that I do not buy firearms with Punisher skulls or Molon Labe on them. If I was charged with anything after a self-defense shooting I do not want anything on my weapon that a prosecutor could portray as inflammatory to make it look as if I was looking for trouble.

The only reason my wife decided to buy her last car... white four door sedan was because I suggested she get it 'wrapped' which she did. She says that's the only way she can find it in the parking lot... but I have not yet shown her all she has to do is punch the unlock button on the fob and the lights on the car flash for a few seconds ... or even push the panic button and the horn and lights go on and off..... of course yesterday she got ready to drive to the dentist and the car would not unlock... seems the battery in the fob had died... at least this was at home.

As for trigger pull.. I have several of the original Ruger PC9s ... the police carbines.... something like an 18lb trigger pull... way back a decade ago we had a member here who had worked for Ruger and explained that the trigger was specifically designed to be that heavy..... to make them safer... the intent was to sell them to police agencies.... along with P pistols of the same caliber and magazines....... but did not work out.. most agencies wanted ARs it seems.

Meh. I'm not a fan of a lot of script but then again, I don't buy them to read.
I would rather see every gun come with a decent case, over fewer warnings.
