Anybody know at about what serial number Ruger quit using walnut on the 10/22?

Or, how do I tell the difference just by "looks" of the walnut vs. birch?

Like most of us I don't need another gun but dang it, this rifle is very nice and has a decent scope with see-thru mounts. Think it s/n in the 129-xxxxx range. At $185.00 OTD it's just hard to pass on.

Well, thought someone else might answer but here's what I remember about the 10/22 walnut. I think it was somewhere in the 121-123 prefix SN range, maybe a number or two higher, but I would say almost for sure 129 is birch.
However, I feel confident if I was looking at the stock I could tell the difference. Another guess I would make is that the walnut went away in early 80's.
Hopefully a 10/22 collector will post better info.

Ruger still offers the 10/22 Sporter model in walnut according to the spec sheet below. Heck, I was thinking that they've always offered a high-end 10/22 (Deluxe Sporter? ...now just Sporter) as an alternative to the standard Carbine. But, then again, I don't claim any special 10/22 expertise, though I've had 6-8 over the years...including a couple of the no-barrel-band walnut stock variety.
