Very interesting. Walmart to charge for shopping carts.

I have read a couple blogs regarding this... Folks are truly angered.

One person wrote, if they're gonna charge us, the least they could do is get some decent carts. Folks are blinded with their own views. Not a thought is given that the carts are in such bad shape because they live their lives dumped along the side of the road or in the local homeless camps. And this is exactly what these deposits could help address. No, it's not gonna fix every scenario, but it could and I believe will, help.

Even on this forum, folks are obviously polarized. In a senior community maybe cart theft is not a problem. Elsewhere, it is a huge problem. And yes, if you want to bring your own wagon so you don't have to drop your fully refundable deposit in the slot, so be it.

You could even go buy your own shopping cart. That'll show 'em.

As far as bringing your own wagon , I see that going on at the nearby dollar store . Assume these are nearby appt. Dwellers and doing it because it's convenient . No vehicles involved .

I would pay if they refunded the money when I brought it back, like many other stores already do. Saves on people just leaving them out in the lot. But the story shows it would take a 1$ coin. How many of those do you see everyday. Guess you have to go in the store and get your change first before you can get your cart.

Want ME to shop in your store ?? THEN PROVIDE ME A SHOPPING CART !! Can I bring in a wagon ? Are you gonna charge for the "handicap" carts?

So while the shopper is making the round trip to return the cart and back to the car, which she may have left unlocked because; "I'll be right back", the hood rats empty out everything she just loaded up. But not to worry, Walmart got it on the security camera. Swell.

First ran into this in Germany a few years ago. I Euro to unlock a cart, refunded when you replaced it in the rack.
Cart theft is like any other cost for retailers, it will be reflected in the cost of goods to the consumer.

I have no problem with this concept. It's not like they're charging you for the cart - unless you steal it.
Then it's probably a bargain.👣

I see this as a opportunity for a young buck to make some spending money.
Goes like this:
Elderly couple bring their groceries to the car and unload the cart.
I walk up "Excuse me sir may I return your cart for you"
"Why yes sonny, thank you"
"You are quite welcome"
I return the cart, collect the deposit.

Some how these complainers think the store buys broken carts. Not that the customers using them are responsible.
Which begs the question, How hard does a person have to work to bend the wheels, chip off rubber, & throw the whole thing out of balance?

Which will invite a parking lot full of homeless bums.

Getting money back when you return cart must be a great idea, especially if they have been doing it in Germany. Isn't that where we got the idea for the traffic round-a-bout. Look how well those stupid things have caught on! Yeah, lets make this country even more like Europe!
