Perhaps to confirm a factory brass gripframe if the owner would allow that, otherwise, not much reason to take anything apart. Study the gripframe changes a bit and you can pretty well tell if something is correct. Get a RENE values book, the specific details listed are valuable information.
There IS the "R" stamp under the grip assembly on a factory converted gun
that sometimes it may be nice to not see there if you have a gun you suspect was re-converted, but the chance of being allowed to
inspect that area on a sellers gun is almost non-existent.
