I had been feeling "BLAH" for a about a week or more; Thought it was the "FLU" ( NOT COVID !!! ); Temperature had been running 100.3 degrees; No enthusiasm, no energy; JUST BLAH !!! Called my Son in Orlando and scheduled him down Wednesday to Baby sit my DUKE Doggy and headed to the Haley VA ER in Tampa. Great, quick Service, blood tests; urine sample, etc and then waited for bed. Private room on the 4th floor in the appropriate ward. AGAIN EXCELLENT CARE, frequent checks and monitoring, antibiotic injections in to veins through inserted needle; Again Great Care !!
Oh diagnosis : PNEUMONIA in BOTH Upper Lungs Released Friday at 3:00 PM with antibiotics to take at home. Feeling MUCH BETTER. Oh, weight dropped from 206# to 196# during my illness.
Sorry for the long spew, but wanted to share why NO comments or "smart" remarks here on the Forum for a period of Time. Cant Get rid f me THAT easy.

Pam I truly feel for you. I went through a week of what you are describing, for the same reason. I had numerous lines stuck in me for days so I can appreciate what you went through. Glad you are out and feeling better.

Having had double bacterial pneumonia 11 years ago it's good you acted quickly. I did not and ended up in the hospital for 8 days on intravenous antibiotics followed by 30 days of oral antibiotics at home. Oh, I also had to have my left lung cleaned out surgically. My advice is you have a fever and a congested chest, get medical care fast like the OP did. Good outcome for the OP any virtue of good decision.

Pneumonia is nothing to take lightly. Good to hear that you are on the mend. Also good to hear about good care at at V.A. facility. I worked in health care my entire career and found that V.A. facilities range from excellent to abysmmal. Those that are affiliated with a medical school and/or a teaching medical center are likely to be excellent but some of the unaffiliated hospitals, staffed overwhelmingly by non-American, second rate physicians, are terrible and a disservice to our veterans.

Good you are feeling better, I assume you left your holster at home. I am not surprised at the good care at the VA...that's always been my experience.

Eat a ton of "Greek" yogurt for your gut health while and after your done with meds. Greek yogurt will definitely help with rebuilding your stomach flora. I'm glad the VA hooked you up. Get well.

Not to start an argument about vaccines but there is a Pneumonia Vaccine and my doctor suggested I get it because of my age. Might help many people on this forum.
I had taken the pneumonia shot and managed to still get it. I still get a booster when due though. Better safe then another week of hospitalized. Obviously it isn't a sure thing, but why not. It's a stick in the arm every year or so.

I suppose that'l work for most people but every time I get either a flu shot or pneumonia shot I come down with the flu or pneumonia. Never fails so I quit getting them. If they work for you, great. They don't for me.

OH YEAH !! I asked about that; I've had not just ONE, but TWO Pneumonia Vaccine shots because I had Pneumonia while in the Army AND DID NOT want it again;
Turns out there are MORE than two variations of the Pneumonia germ ! "SIGH !!"

I got that vaccine myself. My doctor recommended it. Four or five years ago I had a light case of pneumonia. I sent an email to my doctor telling him that I started to cough when I breathed too deeply. He suspected pneumonia right away. He had me come in for chest X-rays and to see him. He could see it was pneumonia by the x-ray. He gave me some medication and it cleared up in a few days. Any of that coughing if you take a big breath and I would see your doctor immediately.

Pam, I'm glad you are getting better. Pneumonia is no fun. Sounds like you had it way worse than me.

Get Well Pamela!

I also had pneumonia, bad, while in the Army. It damaged my lungs and Pneumonia has returned to haunt me many times over many years.

And of course, the VA says they have no record of this.:mad:

I got the two different pneumonia shots within the last 5 years, the upgraded version within the last year. The last two+ years, I've had no pneumonia.

Heal fast! I like to gripe about VA health care (sometimes with justification), but they've (mostly) done right by me. Just don't get me started on Audiologists.
