TULSA Anyone.......................????

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Actually I'll be 62 in 2 months.
But I was a really responsible kid at age 11. Long /short story I cut the lady's grass and the rifle was her father's and she had no children.
My Grandfather ended up marrying her after my Grandmother was killed in a car accident in 1971. This lady then promised the rifle to me, but unfortunately she passed around Thanksgiving of 73 from cancer. She had also given me her Father's Remington model 11 12ga and a US property marked 1917 Colt Double action 45 revolver.
The way you see it is the way I got it. It is original.
I've straddled the fence on selling it , but my daughter or her brother would appreciate it like it deserves.
I have a letter from Cody, finally, and I've always wanted to check out the Tulsa show, So I'll be west bound come Wednesday.
I've always wanted a 2nd gen Colt SAA and there's several Rugers I'd like to have,so we will see what happens.
I'm sacrificing the peak of the rut in my area to take this trip.
I sure hope Trump wins.

Southernbuck101 - We drive from central PA to Tulsa. Wednesday is the long part of the drive. We leave early so we can get around St. Louis before we stop for the night and finish up on Thursday getting into the hotel in the afternoon and relax until Fridays set up. We make these trips into mini vacations as Tulsa is always around our anniversary (Nov 11 will be #52). On the way back we take it a bit easier on the driving as we don't worry about getting somewhere at a certain time. We enjoy the show, take turns manning our displays and walking around to see what might pique our interest. We've found some great deals in the past and passed on the not so great deals but it's always been interesting to us.

BTW, that is a great looking Winchester.

Thank you ,Sir.
Hopefully I will see you there

Don't let the naysayers talk you out of it.
Nothing is a good as the past, especially if you ask an old guy:p , hell, most of the time you don't have to ask, they just tell you🤣

I guarantee you will be overwhelmed. I doubt there is a larger gathering of guns & folks anywhere or any time.
You will be able to find your Colt and meet new, like minded people.
Can't get much better than that........
Hopefully see you there!

Cheers,
JAYDAWG

It's not something I have to sell.
And I've hung around shows long enough to remember when all shows were what I expect this one to be, just on a smaller scale.
And I've listened to, watched, and laughed at, some of the best bs artists in the universe, at these shows.
Got a few on speed dial.
And one of them is riding with me.

I posted earlier and said the show has lost some of its luster for my wife and I which is true. However, there is no doubt that you will never find the items, collections or people of this magnitude anywhere else, NEVER!

I don't recall anyone mentioning this and I assume they stuff do this but Friday is a dealers only time to buy/sale/trade. Had several dealers tell me they make all of their money on Friday night and anything else for the weekend is gravy. You have to have a special ticket to get in. Have a friend who goes to that every year and he said it is amazing and you aren't fighting crowds.

Also, be prepared for crowds and getting lost. Isles are marked - kind of. We take a back pack with snacks and drinks along with note pad and pens to make notes of who we talked to, about what and where. I assume the rifle will get heavy so plan on lots of breaks. You will have to check that rifle in when entering which you probably know and lots of guys walk around with wood dowels in their rifle with notes taped to hem with asking prices and other info. You might find someone in the crowd who is interested. I have purchased firearms there and later stopped at tables only to have people try to buy said firearms from me. It can get pretty crazy.

If you get there early enough, buy your tickets at a place listed that sells them. Saves you some time in the morning and the earlier you get there, the closer you can park to the building.

Have fun and we expect a report upon your return!

Woke up in Tulsa at 5am this morning, just got home enjoying a cocktail looking over my spoils.
Picked up a consecutive set of type 1 RSS's! BUT the best part is, I had the one next to them, and now
have a triple consecutive set . Most likely pics coming this week.

Some Awesome ROCS Ruger displays.
A SRH shipped to the UK with a 21 inch barrel, won best gun and a silver medal.
One display had THREE Green Wreath boxes!??!!??!
Got to see 2 salt cod boxes..........
And the highlight for me was John Dougan gave a presentation at our banquet, explaining how
revolver cylinders are made. He had blanks, and partial made examples on hand to see and hold.
AMAZING.
Join ROCS & see you there next year.........

What a great time, with great people.
Thanks to all who made it so enjoyable.

Cheers,

I was very impressed and sometimes overwhelmed with my 1st Tulsa trip.

Sold the Winchester for more than I expected within 45 minutes inside, to a Gentleman that I felt would appreciate it and give it a good home.

I didn't know about the $80 badge I could have bought that would have got me in Friday during the biblical amount of rain that greeted us about 40 miles out.
Drove all Thursday night and drove all night last night to get back to Georgia. The Ruger Displays were a class act.
More 10" Blackhawks than I've ever seen in the wild on 1 table with boxes.
Wow.
I was surprised there weren't more rugers For Sale on tables, but I did pick up 2 stainless m77s walking the parking lot..
But I suppose that is a testimate to the loyalty of most Ruger Owners.
They want to keep them.

I think it will be a challenge to attend a local shows, now. They will seem like a yard sale at the trailer park, after walking thru Tulsa.
Hopefully the promoters read this and accept the challenge to attract more old iron types of vendors, and less polymer flea markets.

I have a question. I have been to Tulsa 3 times back in the early 0's. From what I saw there were people from many states buying guns from "dealers" cash and carry just like buying a bale of hay. Also the majority of the "dealers" with tables did not have FFL's. Most were out of state. Can someone please explain.
The free state of Oklahoma doesn't require individuals selling from their personal collection to perform background checks. If you are an FFL, of course you have to complete the process whether you are at the show or your own brick and mortar store.
Nobody under 21 is allowed to buy handguns...Federal law.
Over 21 and a non-resident, must pass a background check for a handgun.
Oh, I grew up here and live a mere two miles from the Tulsa fairgrounds and thought all gunshows were this big. Boy was I disappointed when I attended a show in Florida once.
Sorry I missed this thread earlier.

Federal law says you can only buy a handgun in your state of residence. Lot of big dealers quit coming when that passed. Main one I remember was Doc's out of Houston. Private seller's work under no rules, FFL holders hav a guideline. Shame you can't talk to Bryan Malinowski

Hmmm. My retired policeman friend who owns a gunshop here in Tulsa said to bring any non-resident to his booth and he would run the background check for us.
I will have to conduct further inquiry.
Thanks.
Did Bryan have any dogs?
Corrupt government agency for sure.

Please catch up. An FFL will not sell a handgun to anyone under age of 21 in OK nor will sell any handgun to an out of state resident. That would hav to be transfered to the buyer's FFL in his home state. Thought's this day an time can get your butt in a crack. Now come to my house and we can trade horse's, cattle, dogs, bourbon, whatever. Because I do not hav nor do I want an FFL

I have attended shows in other states where there were FFL's from my state who would do the 4473 thing and call in the federal background check. If you cleared the check, you could pay for and take possession of a gun then and there. Thoughts?

Looks to me like that's what huntfish918 said?!??

OK is a free state as far a personal sales go, which means the guy selling has no legal obligation to ask where I live. That being said, I can not bring anything back in to Washington state without a STATE background check. And anything that holds more than 10 rounds or has a folding or collapsible stock, or a pistol grip or a threaded barrel, will be denied.

I believe that out of state purchases are governed by the requirements of the home state of the purchaser. If OK has no requirements for private party sales, but Oregon does, buyer from Oregon needs to have the gun shipped to a FFL in Oregon for a background check to be performed.

My question, that I have not been able to find a definitive answer for, is this. Oregon "ruled" that C&R FFL licensees still have to have a background check if having a C&R eligible gun shipped into Oregon. Yet the FFL is just that- Federal. So it if I get a C&R FFL, can I, as an Oregon resident, buy C&R eligible guns person out of state? I'm guessing not…but there's always hope.

I have no problem with a background check- it's just that Oregon feels that an "instant check" can take up to 30 days. Even with a CHL. And that sucks.

In Washington, I have always had eligible guns shipped direct to me, from any state, with my C&R. Even after the last couple anti gun laws went into effect, I have not heard from the state telling me any different. And I sure as hell am not going to ask them!!
If Oregon requires a BG check even with a C&R, I see no reason to get one.
Hopefully the non constitutional suppression by radical leftist state governments will be dealt a blow in the next 4 years!!
Going to the Tulsa show was a cool breath of freedom.

It seems anything that the liberal left in Oregon can do to make acquisition of a firearm more difficult, well they will double down. I remember when SB941 was signed into law, there were questions about 03FFL holders, as there was no exemption listed for them. Initially the concerns were brushed aside, but when it got down to the wire, 03's were purposely left out.

Washington has some crappy laws, but Oregon is trying to take it one step further. I've railed on and on about M114- take magazines with over 10rd capacity. In WA they are grandfathered in. M114 states it grandfathers them in- but what it actually does is provide for "affirmative defense" of ownership. If and when you're cited for possession of a "large capacity magazine" you can go to court and if you can prove that you owned it prior to the enactment of the ban, you won't be charged. And, get this- said large capacity magazines can only be used on your private property or on designated shooting ranges. They can only be transported to and from such designated shooting ranges. I could go on and on but I polluted this thread enough…

I agree- if it's useless in state , and also useless out of state, then there's no use to have one.
