And here's the actual velocity of the 300 gr WW load. Pretty close to advertised in 22" Handi Rifle barrel. I'm kinda fond of the WW factory load myself! (Called 5th rd flier, my fault not Win's! ):

The reason I want to do this is that my 1895ss isn't wild about 300 gr stuff, except this load. I'd like to duplicate it as exactly as possible. Anyone know just what powder is used in it and how much? Or is it not something available to the public?

Some of my most accurate 45/70 loads are with 300 grn HP (Hornady or Rem) with H322 powder in Starline brass. I am loading them up to around 2050 - 2100 fps though - very consistent in my 1895 (22" bbl).

I would try IMR 4198 for 300 grainers. That powder seems to be somewhat more tolerant of varying volumes and pressures than some others. I have found a variety of good loads with loads as small as 32.0 grains and as high as around 50.0 with 300 HPs.

Here's 49.8:

It's probably just a bit more speed than what you're looking for, but it is safe in the 1895.
