i have a stoeger cougar 40 cal gun and 600rds of ammo, i have a chance to trade to a blue ruger sercurity six in near new condition and draw $150 to boot. the ruger has less than a box of ammo through it and has the wood grips that are like new as well. it has a 4 inch barrel with adjustable sights. is this a good trade? thanks

You done good.

I had the opportunity to buy one quite a few years back, but decided to get a new GP100 instead. Now, I can't even find one. Not sure that I could justify one, either, but I've thought about trading the GP in on something like that.

Good score.

You did better than we could have known from your description. The trouble is you've now got a collectors' item in collectable condition so you need to baby it a little. Those grips weren't the most comfortable for firing magnums. That's why the frame was reshaped. Except for show and tell I'd put after market grips on it.

If you are happy, then great.
But as I read this, I had to "do the math."
Stoger couger, maybe $200 in my opinion.
600 rounds of ammo. At normal prices, assuming about $30 a box of 50, is $360.00
Total value of your trade goods; $560.00
Then you got $150 cash, and a low-backed Ruger Security-Six 357 mag at a value of approximately $500.00.
Total value of your new goods, $650.00.
Are you happy now? You should be!
:D :D :D
