Top 5 Ways to Hide Guns From Your Wife

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I haven't bothered "hiding " gun/ammo/equipment purchases from the Grouch Attack for years. As long as there's adequate funds in the bank and I'm the one generating the majority of those funds, I don't feel I have to justify my expenditures.

Best way is to standardize on a few basic designs and finishes. All Glocks look alike. All blue 1911s look alike. All black AR-15s look alike. All M1 Carbines look alike. All blue steel and walnut bolt action rifles look alike. All blue 4" DA revolvers look alike.

"New gun? This old thing? Honey, you've SHOT this gun before!"

My wife has never liked guns, and wants nothing to do with them. She can tolerate me talking about something gun related but clearly would prefer not doing so. She has never been aware or cared about how few or how many guns I own, so I normally would not even mention to her that I was buying, or just bought another gun. In truth, I have sold off a number of guns in recent years as I have pared down my very small assortment of firearms to what I feel comfortable owning to meet all of my gun related needs. But if you asked my wife how many guns I own, she might say 3 or she might say 33 and it would all be the same to her. I guess if my buying a gun ever caused us to have to defer some other purchase that she wanted or was really needed for the house then she might be unhappy, and with good reason if that were the case. But she didn't blink an eye when I told her I was buying a new Goldwing last year for $25,000 since she knew that was something I have been thinking about for several years, so why would I even mention $500 for a new Ruger?

Hi...
Not going to watch the video...it just doesn't apply to me.
I buy whatever I please with my discretionary income as does my wife.
I generally show her my new firearm purchases but she only has a passing interest.
She most probably has no idea how many guns I own and certainly doesn't really care as long as I make large enough deposits to the checking account to pay the bills.
I recently purchased a customer heavy barreled Sako L57 in .308 at a gun show. Her only comments were along the lines of "are you happy with it" and"that thing is heavy".
When she buys something for herself, she generally shows it to me and I comments appropriately. Neither of us ever criticizes or questions the others purchases.
I wouldn't want to live in a relationship where I felt compelled to hide whatever I wanted to do or purchase.

I'll take a stab at that. ^

It is a joke, funny ways to "sneak" a gun in the house. Yet many take it so seriously that even if the joke was thoroughly explained no one would get it, or the fun was sucked out long ago.....

The one I stole from Pat M years ago (from the same book) is that if the safe door closes, my guns reproduce, I pray the jewelry box never learns this trick.

If I get time later I'll write down a few that I remember.

I've found buying her one from time to time deals with any need to explain any new purchases.

Of course on several occasions something I bought for me became hers. My first Glock 42 went that way. I told her she couldn't have the second.

I pretty much agree with this. I work 6 days a week most of the time to take care of her & the kids. If I want to buy a gun or ammunition & have the money to do so without neglecting other responsibilities it is no ones business but my own.

Off topic but it is somewhat ironic. Moss Pawn persuaded me to learn to buy guns online. I wanted a SR 1911. The only one I found locally was at Moss. This was around 2012 or early 2013. They hadn't been out long & were in high demand. They wanted $800. I came home pulled them up on Gunbroker & found one for $635. My first online purchase & I saved $165.

My wife doesn't care either. She knows I'm it going to go crazy and run up the credit card on guns we can't afford.

The other day I tried to tell her she spends too much money. Now THAT didn't go well at all !!! :D
