I have succumbed to the Tokarev Virus. What is not to love? Sturdy pistols, battle proven. Based largely on the Colt 1903/1905. I recently purchased a Zastava Model 88A in 9 X 19mm. A shorter barrel version of the venerable T-33 and with a real thumb safety. Well made, all steel, hammer fired. About the size of a Colt 1903 so easy to carry. I am looking for a good Zastava or other European made original model T in 7.62 X 25mm. I am pressed with the ballistics on this cartridge. With modern HP ammunition it should be quite effective for self defense. I have seen ammo claiming almost 1,700 fps and 530 ft lbs at the muzzle. I have long experience with single action auto loaders and am comfortable with them. I owned a Model 97 Winchester for 40 years and became fairly capable with lowering an exposed hammer onto a live round in the chamber onto half clock position. The prices are withing my range. Does anyone else collect these?

I bought a used Norinko TT33 copy in 9 mm. Then I bought a Romanian slide, barrel and a couple of mags in 7.62x25. I carry it, and I shoot the heck out of it.
Bullets are hard to find in 85 grain, but I have loaded 110 gr JHP in them.

I had one and it shot hardball reliably but had poor reliability with soft point ammo. And as I got old and wimpy, I could not reliably work the slide, like I might need to in an emergency, so I sold it. It is flat and carries concealed very well. Edit: In response to JohnL's question below, the soft point and hollow point ammo would not work reliably. Big time failures. Only hardball worked in the gun I had, which was pretty nice and sold for good money at a local gun show.

Here's some pertinent info:

I loaded for an 1896 using Tokarev brass with no issues.

Available ammo (20 second search on YAHOO!):

Shows at least one hollow point load:
