leaving for conn tomorrow. looking forward to shooting a handful of old skeet/trap clubs all throughout conn and n.y. not many classics left where you smell the aroma of oak in a pot belly stove burning away, keeping shooters warm in between games. heck, some classics even have taverns to really warm you up afterwards. nothing beats the rustic appeal of burning clay boxes in a 55 gal drum to stay warm in winter out on the range.
all im hoping for is at least 5" of snow. now that would be a a real delight! ill be stopping in at the old ruger plant to pick up some guns being worked on. check on mom, chop her some wood, and enjoy good ole home cooking.

you can whine all you want about the east. its my old home and I enjoy it. a lot of gun co.'s may have left, but the gun enthusiasts are still there. my kinda people. defiant in the face of opposition.

Nothing wrong with CT except the politics you should stop by North Atlantic Sportsman on Rt 25 in Monroe he is very big into shotgun sports and has a large selection of very nice skeet and trap guns he is only15-20 minutes from the Ruger plant Maybe you already know him his name is Joe

Gramps

n.y has some of the best ranges. im for sure going there.
Putnam county has a very small and cozy range, nestled in the pines. club house is dated 1933.
2 in chapaqua. one very nice, one not so nice. the campfire club never answers emails or phones, nor questions sent from their website. so I just drove in and asked to talk to the mgr. in no uncertain terms, they informed me a was trespassing. I never did get to talk to the mgr and I left but not before telling them I was invited cold call into much bigger and much nicer clubs than this one in standing in. they were took back by my boldness. the conn state trap champ 5 times running, invited me back. I never took him up on it. maybe someday.
willow wood is a fabulous club. right up the road from chapaqua.
torrington has a cozy skeet range. seymour fish and game in conn is nice, Ansonia is a bit stuffy but ok, wilcott has 4 fields and skeet, a nice trap in northfield, another trap in Harwinton, Groton is a class act, Norwich is the happiest bunch of guys I know with night birds, Niantic is small and quiet, and Hamden is hit or miss. heck....I shoot my entire 6 month supply of ammo in 2 weeks!

and again its weird.....I own my own range, and I shoot more in conn than I do at my own place. crazy.
gramps....know it well.
he serves members of fairfield rod and gun club, which is right down the road.
and of course, the place im going at the ruger plant is to see mitch.
