Threaded barrel choice

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Well, since the 10/22 can have barrels swapped out easily,, I'd opt for that route. That way,, you can have a threaded barrel AND a normal barrel.

That said,, I have zero knowledge on how the RAR barrel mounts to the receiver. So if it too can be easily swapped,, the question remains,,,,,,!

I agree with contender. Simple matter to swap a threaded 10-22 barrel. Although I have 2 RAR's, I've never had the stock off either to see what the barrel connection looks like. The RAR will be a bit quieter and won't give you fits with functioning if you choose sub-sonic ammo.

Just to point out, I recently took my 10-22 take down SS to my friend's gun shop. I have 2 different suppressors that could be used on a .22lr. I asked him about threading the barrel. It was no problem, he did it. Since factory gun sights are normally too low to use with a suppressor. I didn't have a new one added. The threading process removed the factory front sight base. BTW, he normally charges 95 to thread a barrel.

FWIW, I would steer clear of the aftermarket threaded barrels on ebay. Although there are a couple of shops that do a good job of threading take-off barrels and resell them, there are others who aren't and there's no way to tell which is which until your money's spent.
Having a local shop like kmoore is the best case scenario.

That makes things a little more difficult but not impossible. I had a Remington 700 barrel threaded a while back. The smith was able to thread the barrel w/o removing it from the action. Saved me some $$. Guess that might work for the RAR also--just have to remove the trigger assy.
