Thoughts for today

I used the straw question when interviewing candidates for floor detectives back in the day to gauge their thinking skillsets.

Another question I asked was "why are manhole covers round?".....boy were there some crazy answers!

because the cover is larger than the hole, impossible to accidentally drop the cover down the hole.

But that would work if it was square as well.......I didn't care if the answers were correct, I just wanted to know how they processed thought and reaction speed. A lot of behavioral tendencies could be learned.....let you have an idea who would be a risk or not.

I would have said because a round hole is easier to drill than a square hole........

Do I pass?!??!

Not that it matters, and may not be relevant but for those wondering.....yes there are square manhole covers......I've seen them in "Old Towne" and overseas.

Boiler manholes are elliptical. I could get through a 12"×16" but it was a tight squeeze
I think I would have been capable of that around the 2nd grade.....some of the deck hatches/covers we had to go through in SSET were a pretty tight fit.....I would be in trouble if I needed to go through them more than the few times I ever had to.
