Just a fad from the cult of the left in America
So are emotional support dogs just a fantasy also?

What is an Emotional Support Animal (ESA)?

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides a therapeutic benefit (e.g., emotional support, comfort, companionship) to a person with a mental health or psychiatric disability (such as a serious mental health condition). An ESA is not considered a Service Animal, but under U.S. law, an emotional support animal is also not considered a pet and is generally not restricted by the type of animal.1, 2 Any domesticated animal may be considered as an ESA (e.g., cats, dogs, mice, rabbits, birds, hedgehogs, rats, minipigs, ferrets, etc.) and they can be any age. However, an ESA must be able to be manageable in public and does not create a nuisance.

ESA's do not perform specific tasks, instead, it is the presence of the animal that relieves the symptoms associated with a person's serious mental health condition. For a person to legally have an emotional support animal (ESA), the owner must be considered to have a qualifying mental health or psychiatric disability by a licensed mental health professional (e.g., therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.), which is documented by a properly formatted prescription letter. The difference between a legitimate ESA and a pet is the letter from your licensed mental health professional.

I completely understand service dogs. I suspect that emotional support animals are also helpful (as we all know snowflakes often need a blanky and a puppy to deal with the world) have a place.

What gets me is people who use it as an excuse to bring pets where they don't belong. Having seen "service" dogs, vest and all, urinate and defecate in a grocery store, and the owner simply walk away, it's obvious some sort of verifiable documentation should be required.

Never been bothered by a dog in a store or office. People will leave their kids in a hot car, or their pet. Those are the jerks I cannot stand. Actually I see a dog lover as someone that does have common sense. Most of the time I will pet one and always get that wag of the tail, which does give me a few seconds of enjoyment and peace. Really do not understand why any would be bothered by a dog in a store. They are always friendly, polite. I lost my best friend (dog) a few years back. Not a day goes by that I do not think of her. Now when I see a dog in a store, I get good memory sent to me.
Funny how things work. I have always believed dogs were sent by God, and have powers way above mankind.

What I do not like is, some trailer trash mother screaming at her kids or some brat screaming his head off that can be heard non stop across the entire store. Bad Parenting.

Yes, absolutely 100% a complete loony fantasy, whose biggest bump in popularity and (false) "acceptance" came during Covid, and came from the same mental weakness that still causes the insane amongst the population to wear a face diaper. If you want a pet, own a damn PET, just like NORMAL people, don't make it another BS crutch to make your unspecial ass special…

Let me make this clear: I understand that in some cases a 'support animal is important. When my Son lost his sight, he had a dog who was his protector and companion. When that dog died, we got him another but the second dog was far less important to Son's well being. Son had already began the progression to being self sustaining. At no time did he feel the need to drag an 'emotional support pooch' around during his remaining school years or college. IMHO, these 'support' animals are a crutch that promotes continuation of dependency rather than learning to cope and progress.
A 'support animal' for upset travelers is an absolute slap in the face to handicapped folks who actually 'need the support'. I have to seriously rein in my feelings/comments when encountering on of the 'wanna be' folks with an ill trained filthy animal on a string in places where 'normal' folks wouldn't even think of bringing an animals (even a clean, well behaved one).

I think it's like the disabled parking stickers. A lot of people get them that aren't really in need of them. So of the dogs are important especially vets .
I guess I don't get the thing about vets needing dogs, I mean they are around them all darn day. You'd think they would want to take a break from seeing critters all day. Poor vets...

(On a serious note, I LOVE animals, and they are good for your mental well being, as you should strive to be for theirs. But the mentally ill and unstable turn their ownership and dependence into their own little pity party display and it's disgusting to watch at times. I feel like they have somehow managed to pervert pet ownership on some level.)

Personally I think the world has gone mad! At loosing your grits over something like this. When I see someone with a dog in a store, traveling, etc. I don't go into hate mode or start cursing the world. Lol, get over it. Just a dog. Some people will also get their panties all twisted up when they see someone with a EDC. Which is just a support tool, comfort etc.
Some people are better off just staying home. Never cared if someone else wore a COVID mask. As long as I was not forced to then so what? Some people look better with a mask. And they are not as loud.

Well, we'll just have to disagree, but again, it's not the DOG, for me, it's the entitled persona behind the dog, flaunting the critter for attention and demanding special treatment. And for the record, people that open carry might just as well wear a mask AND have a Pomeranian on a ruby necklace.

Awhile ago I started a thread about fake service dogs when I went out for breakfast with friends and was almost attacked by a dog wearing a service animal vest. The dog came from under the table at me when I was a couple of tables away from the guy and his poorly trained dog. The dog lunged at a couple of other people and finally I had a "talk" with the idiot. He later was busted for having a fake service animal vest on his untrained dog...

Wow, how could he be busted? It's actually a UN war crime for anybody at ALL to ever ask a special person for proof of their support iguana's legitimacy... You can't challenge that, you might just as well ask them for a Vot..... well, never mind... ;)
