And yet Americans of today would not fight a corrupt and evil government if they were 25, let alone 78. Stories about another generation don't make US that generation. It's coming and we're deserving...

Great story...I hope me and many others could do the same thing if needed but you never know until you are tested...put in that position where something needs to be done...I am sure we all hope that time never comes.

It doesn't have to be the American Revolution,, it can be anything. If a person believes in something,, and are of a strong mind,, they can & will fight HARD no matter the odds or what's against them. Age isn't the limiting factor,, their mentality is.

People just didn't die as easy then. Today just show a firearm or combat blade to many folks and they fold. Touch them and they die if fright.

I blame Hollywood and the old westerns. In many of those the townsfolk cower in the shadows while they wait for lone hero to arrive and rid the town of the outlaw gang.

So true. Many times the major difference between a patriot and a terrorist is which end of the gun you are on.
I'm having to constantly remind folks that the 'patriots' in the American Revolution were terrorist up until we won. And contrary to what you see in movies and on TV about the revolution, we were not only fighting Red Coats but a lot of our neighbors and folks who had been our friends. Sadly it is what some folks seem to want to do today......

There was some guy who survived a massacre lead by Tarlton here in S.C. that got shot and stabbed and even parts cut off and lived to tell about it.

I guess I have a different opinion than some of you. If America is invaded (which I doubt) or Antifa decides to attack innocent Americans, I do believe people will step up. Old as I am I will protect America to the best of my ability, and believe that the majority of previous military folks will step up as well. I think that there are patriots who will step up the best they can. Not sure how many gen Z or X or whatever they are called today, will step up but many have already given up their rights and as long as they have the internet they will be happy.

I also don't consider the freedom fighters, who stood against the tyranny of England terrorists. I'm leary of those that put Americans in that category, and don't trust them.

yep, most folks during the revolution just wanted to plant their crops and get on with life. As this war drug on the British made major mistakes like burning the Presbyterian Church in the eastern part of S.C. and putting up signs in the western part of N.C. that folks needed to come in and sign a loyalty oath to the king or their crops and farms were going to be either taken or burned. all of these folks had moved to what was then the wilderness to get away from this kind of stuff.... on top of that, the Brits changed the rules.. there was such a thing back then. If you were captured you could sign a letter of pardon and be sent home on the condition you would no longer support either side.... they changed that and said any released prisoners had to come back in and sign a loyalty oath and if need be 'support' the crown. Andrew Pickens here in S.C. was one of these and he actually went to a British encampment and told the officer in charge that if they were going to do that then we would rejoin the rebels. The British officer let him go.

Sociology experiments have concluded that active participation is almost always around 4%
Obviously that was enough. From a modern day perspective, every war we've been involved with, only used a very small percentage of the population. If we were invaded, it wouldn't take every American to fight. If the occasional passerby had an opportunity to take out an invader, and was never involved again, they made a contribution.
With the number of guns in our country, if even 10% of the population made a single contribution, it would be more than substantial!
