Is the Alaskan simply a short barrel Super Redhawk, or what are the differences?

Does the Alaskan also use a screwed in barrel? It kind of looks like the bore is part of the frame itself.

Thanks.

I bought on of the first Ruger Alaskans when they came on the market. I love it and the 454 it shoots. I think it has a better balance in the hand than the longer models, and it looks brutal. I fire at least 50 rounds every time I get it out and am not bothered at all by recoil. One of my favorites.
