The P89 DAO, as basic as it gets

I put together a "range rig" for my P89 out of the piles of Don Hume gear I bought from their "Second Quality " sale years ago

The DAO P-series guns are awesome, no safety to worry about, no cocked hammers, no Decocker. You just shove a mag in , rack the slide, and pull the trigger to dispense a bullet

The double action pull is smooth and light, but it can require some familiarization. I haven't fired this or my DAO P94 in a long time, at 25 I was hitting low because I was dipping the barrel with that trigger pull. I do the same thing with my S&W 5946

A couple drops of Lucas CLP down the slide rail , good to go. It was still dirty from last time, oops.

Not a single bobble over 100 rounds. These guns just work. They may be as ergonomic as a staple gun but they work.

My 5946 is a little more "sleek " but the P89 is a workhorse. I used to shoot my DAO P94 9mm in Practical Handgun matches and do well, these guns are capable once you get familiar with them.

A few years back I took a DAO89 and added a full size trigger to it.. Never have fired it but it was fun to tinker.

What is a full size trigger? Like how people were swapping in P95 triggers into P89s?

Speaking of which, I just recently saw my Bud's order history and in 2012 I apparently attempted to order a P95 but Bud's cancelled the order for some long forgotten reason , probably out of stock. It seems like not long ago you could just buy a new P gun

These are the best overall fighting autos ever. They're big and bulky , and not as aesthetic as stuff like Sigs or 1911s but they feed almost anything and just work. Bill intended the P gun to win the 1985 US Military 9mm pistol trials and in my opinion it should have won. The P85 passed every test but lost on some technicality so the Beretta could win.

Total brain fart. I cut the slide and put in a custom hammer. Not trigger. I have done the 95 trigger swap on other 89s though.

I have tinkered on just about every P-gun. Not sure if my old pictures would show anymore but if you search my posts you may come up with some interesting things. At least I thought it was interesting at the time I was doing it.

Keep the P-guns alive!!
