The first time my daughter had a corn dog she started eating it and all of sudden she exclaimed "there's a hot dog in my corn dog!". It was very cute coming out of 5 year old. We've since told that to her daughters when we had corn dogs and they got a kick out of it.

Fletcher's corn dogs at the Texas State Fair are supposedly the benchmark for that type of junk "food".
I absolutely love corn dogs, but don't eat them very often. I know Fletchers is supposed to be famous but i tried them once and that was too much. I didn't like them at all.

At Trader Joe's they sell a corn dog with turkey dogs in the middle. I bake them in the oven at home. Not the same, but close.

My second love is a good gas station hot dog. You know on those rollers. Oh man!

"If you grew up in the 60's and 70's corndogs and fish sticks were a thing."
I grew up in the 50's & 60's and do remember a few 'fish sticks' but that was at school cafeteria. At home we mostly ate what we or someone in our community grew or foraged.

Maryland State Fair had the best corndogs.....Old Bay seasoning in the batter.....add a couple pitchers of ice cold National Bohemian (Natty Boh to the Bal'more folks) and you had a great side to a crab feast.

***Trivia question for you older Bal'more folks who enjoyed that "harbor water".....what happened to Natty Boh's other eye?

I never heard or called Natty Bo harbor water. Not the best beer but it was relatively cheap and perfect for a hot summer day with crabs.

It is tradition where I grew up in MD to only have Natty Boh with crabs.......anything else is pure blasphemy and will not be tolerated....sort of like using a mallet....only tourists use mallets and drink other beer with crabs..... ;)

Old brewery was converted to office space and apartments. They kept the old sign which had been a landmark. A nice touch and is probably why it's still a Baltimore thing even though it hasn't been made here in decades.
Nothing to do with corn dogs though. Can't beat the state fair corn dogs.

Loved them as a kid. I would also go to the Fairgrounds when they raced short track in the Cow Palace. Ton's of fun.....and the corn dog vendor would be there....and also Fried Dough, and Thrashers Fries.....

Answer to above trivia regarding Natty Boh: "Gunthers got it"........any of you old Bal'more folks remember Gunther?

Exactly! This is the proper tool for crabs. Mallets are for driving fence posts.
