Quite unbelievable: the slide stop on my P90 broke !!

Just an hour ago I was at the target range and was missing the target even worse than usual. I happened to glance at the right side of the P90 and the slide stop pin was sticking out about 1 inch !!

I just checked my notes: I bought this particular P90 way back in December 2000. It has at least 18,000 rounds through it.

I just got one ordered from Numrich.

All part of the fun.

I know the P-guns are basically obsolete but I try to suggest calling Ruger first for any part. I don't tinker like I once did but back then you could get factory fresh parts for cheap. The shipping was more than the part at times but worth it.

Glad you will have it running again. Too bad you won't be able to track rounds fired on that part though. May fail again before making 24 years..... HAHA

Keep the P-guns alive!

Magazine Latches ...... as in, Magazine Latch Spring ??

Two have broken, I replaced both. For a zero-stress part, I'm still shaking my head over how a zero-stress part will break. Makes no sense to me.

I wanted to modify the slide stop on a pistol of mine, a Sig P226, for a class I was taking... have it stick out a bit further so that the malfunction test would be easier... (Yes, I know in hind sight a dumb idea) and so I ordered a replacement from Sig and put the little critter in a vice and went to bend it a bit and it just broke... seems at least the Sig ones are heat treated so that they are super hard but also brittle.

I worked in a machine shop for ten years and quickly came to realize that anything mechanical can break at any time for any number of reasons. And I've always viewed firearms as mechanical, thus..... I do think Ruger has spoiled us as they build their firearms so robust that we think they're indestructible, but they're still "machines".

It is a newsworthy event. I have 10s of 1000s of rounds through my P94 and it may be almost time to get a couple spare slide stops for the parts kit

The CZ shooting team guys who shoot like 3000 rounds per day keep slide stops in their range bags so they can pop a new one in if one gives out in a CZ75, even the "tanks" wear out parts
The same goes for the CZ75 clones, also. They share the same slide stop "weakness", if it may be called that.

Very true. Both ideas.

Even the personal "favorite" vehicle type breaks at one time or another......they are just more complicated machines than most firearms. And all machines have a weak point, whether or not designed to have it.
