The guns of Freedom Arms.......

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I currently own three different FA's. A 7.5" M83 in .41 magnum, a 6" M83 in .44 magnum, and a 6" M97 in .41 magnum. Amazing firearms!

Oooohh,, I see Robb has just posted pictures too. And I think I know that gun that went to Africa. If it's the one I'm thinking of,, it's current owner used it quite well, and impressed several people over there.
Ok, I guess after hearing all of these good things about Robb......I guess he doesn't have to go see a Priest then.......you are off the hook Robb 🙂😄😁

Hi Big Bore......Yes, I have seen the photos of a couple of yours and more importantly the results of your hunting trips with them. The photos showed the success !! 🙂👍

Sometimes the overriding sense of guilt actually gets to me and a sell a collectible before I violate it! Ross version flat top, unfired boxed bisley etc. Not often though!🤣
Now after seeing your results and hearing a little about you .......I guess you don't have to see the Priest now ......God has forgiven you !! 🙂😄👍

Robb, I fully understand selling something because the originality needed to be respected. I had a sorta barn find Model A that I was going to hot-rod and just couldn't do it. Ended up selling it to someone who would restore it

I sometimes feel guilty about customizing some of my OM's. But nothing I have done cannot be reversed. Nothing I have done yet, that is. I'm with you on the lack of love for stainless. My only stainless Ruger is a New Vaquero, it just looks right. I'm contemplating having it engraved too- I've always wanted a BBQ gun…

I've handled a few FA guns. Never owned one though. Absolutely beautiful, mechanically exquisite. I also thought they were quite heavy. But the build quality is amazing. Comparing them to a Ruger is sorta like comparing a Kershaw knife to a Benchmade. They are both great but one is definitely built to a higher fit and finish standard.

In speaking with Ronnie Wells a while back, he said he was going to build his own SA revolver at some point. Now that would be something I might have to ante up for.

I've owned two, one a FA83 in 454 Casull and a FA97 in 357. I sold the FA83 because I never shot it much. I love the FA97, it's built incredibly well and shoots fantastic. I think my brother owns about 5 including 32 H&R, 44 special, 454.

Randy, I was just looking at your garage photo, and I am very surprised that you don't have more tools in there. How are you supposed to do or finish any projects, for that matter, if you don't have any tools?? 🙂🙂

Kevin, I think your way of thinking makes sense. Maybe someday !! BUT you did send off a couple of guns to get customized !! Good going !! 🙂👍

I've got a 5.5" .41 Magnum M97 that I bought back in about 2012-2013. One thing the tight tolerances gets ya, I had to sell off all my Remington .41 brass as variations in rim thickness meant a good percentage of the brass wouldn't allow the cylinder to rotate as the brass dragged on the recoil shield. Switched to Winchester brass and all is well.
Very nice pistol though. And yeah, the prices they spec at nowadays would be real hard to stomach.

I won't ask as I just finished a very late lunch! 🙂 Even the brass mattered as far as tolerances ? Personally, I don't really know if that is good thing or not ?? So a guy at a range can't shoot his gun because he had Remington shells 😮☹️ !! Now I know a lot of real gun and shooting enthusiasts would "really dig that"......not me too much. 🤔 I guess you can call me uninformed I guess. I am too used to putting a shell in a revolver and hear it go off when I pull the trigger and on to the next round. But what do I know.

I have some. As has already been said, and mine are no exception, the quality of workmanship is wonderful.
I don't really have any friends that are As enthusiastic about nice, everyday firearms as I am. If the subject does ever come up in conversation and I'm asked why I would pay that much for a gun, I always remember something the late Jeff Quinn said. He said his granddaddy told him one time " son you will never be sorry you bought the best". I try to apply that statement often.

Owned two, a 97 44 Special and a 83 41 Magnum, both gone now. Not that they aren't great guns, they are. But the grip frame did not agree with my hand.
And don't rag on Robb. He has owed more nice customs that most us will ever see.
