IIRC, Elmer's hands were burned fairly badly and he did some pretty gruesome 'self therapy' to recover the use of them. I spent months remembering his efforts as I recovered from my own but maybe less severe injuries.
Horses, cattle, hunting, and guns--we've walked somewhat parallel trails.;)
 
Elmer was definitely a one of a kind person! And his influence in our world of firearms & shooting is timeless.
I've been fortunate enough to having visited the Elmer Display in Cabelas before it was taken down. Amazing to see, and sadly, now gone.

His legacy lives on for sure!
 
Hell, i was there! Read it twice, 40 and 10 years ago. And some others. Knew a bookseller, made me offers i couldnt refuse. And always read his magazine stories when i came across them. Never wanted to be him, because that would include the fire he survived as a kid. Just wanted to be rich enough to go around the world with him.
