The Muscle Car Joy thread showed how many members have (or had) Pontiac Firebirds. So as not to overrun his thread- I thought I's start an all-Firebird thread. Post your pics and stories here. It'll take me a while- I have had dozens of them. All have had Pontiac engines (no 350 Chevy or LS transplants here).

My first was the Mayan red w/ black interior 1979 400 4-speed in the center of pic 1. My second was the all-original 1978 Solar Gold 400 auto. ( right in pic). Then I bought the blue 1980 301 auto for my daughter's first car.
Next I built this 1973 into a 468 4-speed. Blue with a Formula hood, and T/A wheel and front/rear spoilers. Western wheels. True positrac (welded spider gear). This one was the fastest one I ever did. That pic is from a calendar shoot it was featured in.
Next was 1 of 2 that I owned. They were 1 of 2000 1981 NASCAR Daytona 500 pace cars built. 4.9 turbocharged V-8 engines in them. The pic with the blacksmith shop is another calendar picture that it was in.
Silver 1981 T/A that I sold 10 or so years ago with 12xxx miles.
Yellow 1969 that needed a lot of love. It was full of bondo. I kept the door skins and roof skin. I replaced the hood, trunk deck lid, full rear quarters, both fenders, tail panel, every wire front to back, interior, gauges, and built a Pontiac 400 with F.A.S.T. fuel injection. And painted it Kona Blue.
The Sport Gold Metallic '98 WS6 is a 1 of 34 car, and now resides in Virginia with a good friend. It was a GM test car, and was owned/driven by GM execs and engineers for two years. It was first titled in 2000 when GM sold it to an employee, whom I finally bought it from. I sold it with 64xxx miles in 2014. It had options installed that were unavailable in 1998 (as it was a test car for their new design). Pic taken in Smokey Mtn. National Park on one of its trips there.
Then I bought another Mayan '79 400 4-speed. It had camel tan cloth interior.
And a 1 of 1107 built 1979 Special Edition (Bandit) 400 4-speed Trans Am.

To be continued:

This is a white 1978 hardtop T/A. Originally it had gray/red graphics. I redid it and went with gold SE graphics.
1978 Special Edition Trans Am on a trailer, before I restored it. Next pic is after paint. My neighbor now owns it, and the second Mayan I posted above, and a 1978 Martinique Blue T/A I owned (and a 1970 Camaro drag car I sold him).
Red 1990 Bandit 2. Number 85 of 600. Mostly a plain car with graphics and add-ons, but no power upgrades. Built by Choo-Choo Customs.
1 of 41 silver 2002 Firehawks built.
1978 Martinique Blue (1 year color) T/A with Fisher t-tops. I see it every year at the Nats. It now has 49xxx miles as of last week. 400 auto WS6 car.
1978 Y88 Solar Gold Special Edition before restoration. It had a few dents and some rust but was all original, down to the tires.
1973 yellow Formula 400 auto.
2002 Sunset Orange Metallic 1 of 212. Sold it in 2018 with the original battery and 11,400 miles. 6 speed WS6 car.

Blue 1978 Firebird that is still local.
Inside my custom car trailer that I have since sold is a primered numbers-matching 1973 455 4-speed Trans Am with 79xxx documented miles. Repainted to original color (Buccaneer Red).

There are more cars, but since I had everything moved to my new computer- some files are hard to find. So that's all for now! Your turn!

Even though GM ran the show, far and away I always preferred Pontiac designs over Chevrolet. I was surprised that they killed Pontiac.
Politics, plain and simple. It was part of the GM 2009 bailout agreement to kill Pontiac. For the record, in Pontiac's last year of production it outsold Buick AND Caddy combined by a 2 to 1 margin. Yet they stayed and Pontiac disappeared.

I do not have any pictures thanks to my ex but I had Mayan Red 1978 Trans Am, hard top, with the 403 Olds Engine and 400 Hydramatix transmission. It was the only one I ever saw with full power options (windows, doors, etc). I bought it from a guy in Georgia and drove it all the way to WV sitting on a 5 gallons bucket using a pipe wrench for a steering wheel (this was 30 years ago btw). My uncles and I stripped it to the frame and rebuilt it. It was an amazing car but I ended up selling it to buy my first house.....which the ex got in the divorce 🙄

Stories are good, even without pics. I've driven a couple using a bucket for a seat. Makes for interesting times when the bucket rocks on acceleration and when braking!

Great Firebird thread indeed! Guy I worked with had the Firebird Firehawk. Not sure of the year now but was envious of that one. Thanks for the pics

I had a 78 for acwhile, wasva fun car. Unfortunately the t-tops leaked and rotted out a hole behind the driver in the floor. Was in Florida and rained heavy. I would get soaked with the tops in, actually was better without!. It became a donor car for a co-workers TA, she blew her mtr up.
My Brother in law had the Indy Pacecar. Never installed the billboard. Got to drive it once, pretty nice!
