Hey Guys,
Today after 15 months of part time work the Cub took to the air with Son Trey at the stick. It was REAL cold and windy but we got her done. All systems were a go with no problems.
The pictures were taken down the runway at Grandson Chad's house. With the strong COLD North wind Trey did the take-off at Chad's house.

On March 30 1973 which was 50 years ago I flew my Starduster Too for the first time. Trey wanted to wait to fly the Cub on the same date. But we needed to get back home.

It was over 50 years ago, I attended A&P school, both in high school and college. Some of the aircraft I trained on, Taylorcraft, Piper and more, were old even then, but always beautiful. This is great to see this modern variation of an old classic, built of modern materials, and absolutely gorgeous.

Airplanes were my love. The draft ended my plans for an aviation career. I never again worked on aircraft once I left the Army. But I still love airplanes.

What a beautiful airplane. And a beautiful family.

The Whole Mob picture even has the dog
looking through the fence in the background. An Airedale I hope.

Congrats on getting it done. I am not an aviator, but I do appreciate your posts and explanations. I have flown as a passenger many times, and always had immense respect for anyone that can pilot an airplane and has the cojones to do so! I used to fly at times with a guy who claimed to use IFR. Later I realized it meant I Follow Roads.

Thanks, Jim, for letting us follow and learn thru the internet.

It might have been cold but at least you don't need to clean bugs off that pretty new paint.
So is it done done, or flying and still have "stuff" left to do?
I maybe sense a formation flight on March 30th.

Hey Guys,
Thanks again for all of your kind comments, I really do appreciate them.
I will try and answer your questions.
What's the range on that thing? We gotta little Muni strip with good BBQ close by.
Trey and Chad live at an Airpark between Rhome and Justin called Fairview. What strip and BBQ are you referring to? It may be close by. The range is around 700-750 miles so can probably make it :)

Ned,
That Pooch is a new breed called a Ground Hound :) They are way to CRAZY to put in a flying machine unless highly medicated.
A lot of us here are aviators in some form or another. These posts are wonderful to see & experience (via the net) for us.

But the "mob" picture is missing the 4th Gen little one!
Contender,
Mom had to leave to show a rent house of theirs and took #4 with Her.
Congratulations !!!!

Dave,
As you well know Planes are never ever REALLY done, but this one is probably 99,9%. :) We didn't want to have to do a bunch of stuff while flying off the required 40 hours of test flying.
A Form flight on the 30th would be great and I wish it could happen, but can't swing it. A GREAT idea.

Thanks again Guys,
Jim

Fairview is about 45 minutes SSW of me. Gainesville Municipal airport is a mile from The Smokehouse in Lindsay and two miles from my place of emplyment.
